Catherine's Story

I was married to a wonderful man and a classmate of 1955. Go figure-never looked at each other twice in the hallowed halls of our beloved BHS but boy did we do a double take when we re- connected thanks to Classmates over 15 years ago. Thank you Classmates and thank you BHS for my wonderful memories and for bringing this man into my life again!! We moved to the Desert Southwest and Cal returned to Washington State for a year or so on Contract with Boeing. He was retired from there as an engineer and they wanted him back for awhile so we were in the middle of decision time, move back or me stay on here at our home and fly back and forth periodically to visit each other.. *sigh*. I miss this man I love so much so -- it was a difficult decision at the time. When he would come home it was wonderful and he was able to relax so it was good for him to get away from the hustle and bustle of the working environment too. When I would fly up to see him and stay a week or so, the reunion was amazing. *smile*. I logged many a mile on Delta Airlines during the time he was back to work.. Made the decision: I saw so ---many beautiful new homes in Washington State, and my head was reeling from all of them, then I got back to our home here in St. George and asked--"WHY"?. So here I stayed knowing Cal would be home when his contract was up for good--- YIPPEE---- This was our love nest and I kept the home fires burning until he returned. I was flying back and forth a lot, but then it is so---- much fun to run into his arms in the airport. *grin*. We laughed we loved and we talked about old times at Roosevelt Jr. High and Bellflower High . He was actually born in Compton as Bellflower did not have a hospital at the time, so I always teased him about being a rebel. LOL Among other things--- *smile*. Cal finally retired for good in June of 2009 and I was so happy. We took a trip with ...Expand for more
the Harley up to Washington State to see his buddies and fellow engineers at Boeing and their families and I saw my work associates and gal pals at the Bon Marche' now Macys in Everett, and we saw my sons and grandchildren. Then in August Cal took very ill, I rushed him to the hospital and it was a downward spiral from that night on. I would stay with him in the hospital and in the rehab facility they moved him to the biggest room and put in another bed and pushed the beds together so we could hold onto each other during the night. He hated for me to be gone one minute.. I brought him home a couple of times and he was rushed back to the hospital for more treatments/tests and more misery. I lost my love March 2nd. 2010. He fought a brave and valiant battle against Prostate Cancer. I was by his side during the entire time and took care of him at home the last three months with trips back and forth for another surgery, another chemo or another hospital stay for a few days. God bless Hospice. I held him in my arms sobbing when he took his last breath but he will always have my heart and we will be together again in time. Little by little I am learning to go on with my life without my Cal. It has been rough and from time to time it gets rougher, but I know he would be giving me a good talking too if I sat and never learned how to live again. I love him, always will, I miss him and always will and he took a big part of me with him when he went to his heavenly home. My family, my friends, my church and many of my classmates are my rock right now. And I thank you all for being here for me and teaching me how to smile and live again. Cal told me to live and enjoy life even though he would be gone. It has taken me almost 8 years but I am now living a childhood dream. I moved to the beautiful country of Morocco and am loving every moment. God Bless each and every one of you.
