Cathie's Story

As soon as I left Barstow I dumped the name Cathie and have been Cat ever since. So, Cathie Erickson/Rowe has been Cat Jefferson for over 45 years! I've done a lot of different things over the decades, from being a teacher's aid to a Registered Dental Assistant. But mostly, I've been an entertainer, usually as a vocalist. I've been in many different bands, from top 40 dance bands to Soul & R&B, to Variety bands where we had to play a plethora of different styles of popular musics. I always wanted to move away from that and switch to Jazz. I got that opportunity eleven years ago. I'm not a wild and crazy kid any more. Jazz is timeless and very expressive. The old standards will never die! The longest I've been in the same band has been twelve years. It started out as a blues band but moved in the direction of more older top 40, so I never really got completely onto the jazz world. Hey, if you want to gig, you have to do what a variety of listeners want to hear. I'd still be a member but CoViD put my soul mate and I out of work permanently. We also gigged together. Seeing as we both were getting old and he was utterly sick of playing nightly for well over 50 years, and having to play what the public wanted to hear, we decided to retire and move from the city of San Diego to the country in Kentucky! (He died only...Expand for more
6 months after we moved) Anyway, I had to quit the band I had been in for twelve years to move here. I do miss the stage, but more so, I miss my soul mate desperately. I've been fortunate in that music has taken me to quite a few countries that I never would have seen if not for music and gigging. I've gotten to tour the western states, do a Mediterranean USO tour, performing for our troops overseas, and I also went to Japan to sing in Japanese! I've put up some photos of some of the costumed stuff I've done just because it's fun stuff. Eventually I'll throw a few band photos up. One of my pass times used to be sequencing MIDI files and helping other musicians who work as single acts or in duo or trios, with their MIDI sequencing needs. I also answered many a MIDI sequencing related technical questions. Through music and the internet I've made many a friend. If you want to contact me my e-mail addy is: jazzcatt (at) gmail (dot) com ( I'm hoping classmates doesn't remove it. They tick me off by charging so much! I'm also trying to head off bots that scrounge the internet for e-mail addys.) I'm hoping to hear from some folks I knew back when, both from Rim of the World High and Barstow High. If anyone knows what happened to Shelly Parrot, (from Barstow High, Class of 74) I'd sure like to know. Cat >^..^<
