Cathryn's Story
After high school I went to the U of M, then Mott, then back to the U of M. During those years I married a musician (big mistake except that it resulted in two beautiful, talented, special daughters and eventually two wonderful grandsons and a granddaughter), worked at LakeVille in the office, then as a substitute teacher, and remarried.
My marriage to Randy Whitehead included another perfect daughter and a sweet granddaughter and grandson as well as two stepsons and a stepdaughter that gave us four more granddaughters and three more grandsons. Randy and I had been married for 12 years when his health began to go downhill, and I took a job at Metamora Products for the insurance benefits. We had 20 good years together when he died in 2004. Everyone who knew and loved him will always miss him, and I'll continue to volunteer for the American Diabetes Association in honor of him.
During my marriage, I enjoyed reading, writing, playing the piano, and fishing. I still enjoy all these activities, even though I'm pretty rusty on the piano. But I've begun earning a little money writing articles on websites, and...Expand for more
since writing was always what I wanted to do for a living, I'm beginning a second career at the age of 50. To get out of the house and away from the computer, I am a part-time greeter at Meijer in Davison.
I began a new relationship a few years after Randy died with a great guy, Jim, who makes me laugh and supports my life choices. We were married on July 1, 2009. I have great friends at work and at home, especially my best friend, Mary Lynn Stimson, who has been there my whole life and knows me better than anyone in the world. I have the best family, including my parents, brothers, sisters, daughters, step-children, grandchildren, in-laws, and my church family. All of them have supported me through health issues, loss, financial problems, and emotional moments.
I hope my friends remember me as someone with a purpose, a conscience, and a sense of humor who did her best in spite of many human failings. I hope when people remember me they think of laughter, music, hope, and faith. I hope my writing helps strangers as well as friends and acquaintances and that people I've hurt in the past can forgive me.
