Cathy's Story
Life
My husband and I met in the Navy while stationed in Puerto Rico. He transferred to VA, while I took off for Italy - God reunited us in the fall of 83. Just celebrated 25 years together. He retired from the USN in '95 with 20 years - now works for the Post Office and looks forward to that retirement as well! When he's not at work, he's "converting" his Ford Ranger to a larger engine. Maybe some day it will be finished...
We have been blessed with one son (God knew what I could handle!) whom we graduated from Home School in June 2006. He's now attending the local community college - working toward a degree in Criminal Justice. After growing up with the original Ninja Turtles, he entered martial arts training at 12, and is still going strong at 21.
I stay busy right along side of him. Watching him "do karate" wasn't enough, so I too started training in '99, and now train and teach Karate and Tai Chi. This has been a blessing for me as I am able to help young and old not only learn karate, while having fun, but also a great life skill of Self-Defense.
In what spare time I have, I love ...Expand for more
pulling out a cross-stitch project - or being out enjoying my flower beds. The scrapbooks are forever calling me - but never seem to be caught up!
Workplace
After discharge from the Navy I held a few odd jobs, but none could compare to being an SK. In our son's 3rd grade year, I came home and quit working to pay the babysitter. In 4th grade, we brought him home to school and that became my job. Very challenging to say the least. In '99 started training in martial arts - in 2004 joined the team of instructors at Karate for Christ and it's one of the best jobs I've had.
Military
Spent Christmas of 79 in Orlando, FL - Co. K032 with a pretty great bunch of gals. Moved on to Meridian, MS for SK training and then to Puerto Rico from there. Best tour of duty was AD-38 in Gaeta - would do it again in a heartbeat! Tie for best, UCT-One out of Little Creek. Great group of CBs to work with.
Lasted in the Navy till 89, then came home to raise my son. Have had lots of regrets of getting out - but the Lord has blessed me with so much in my life to ease those regrets. Would still go back in if I could!
