Cathy's Story

Life I'm still living in the Aldine area of Houston, and teaching at Eckert Intermediate School. I have recently married another Aldine Grad. (it's not his fault he went to THAT school. =) ) I have two boys, 13 and 8, and 2 step-children 14 and 10. I would like to renew some of my old friendships, and look forward to hearing from some of you. School I didn't start in public school until I was half through my Jr. year in HS. My first, and thankfully last, summer band practices were for my senior year! In private school I was involved in more activities, the schools were small, you almost HAD to participate, just so there would be activities... so I did it all, sports (hard to believe huh?), drama, choir, band/orchestra(in private school we were doing good to have 20 participants total!), etc. Some of my fondest memories of my Senior year involve my friends and cohorts from band. College I started at Houston Baptist University the summer of '86. I didn't waste any time getting started in college, but took my time getting out! After a year at HBU, I transferred to "North Harvard"... or NHCC as it was then known. I finished my Associates in History and Photography in Fall '89. I transferred to Sam Houston to complete my BA. I was taking my time, barely carrying a full-time load, working a couple of part-time jobs, and commuting. Then I got married and had my first son. I took just over a year off, started back at NHCC again first, to get back into the groove of cl...Expand for more
asses and studying, and then completed my BA in one blazing year; Fall '93 through both summer terms '94! I took a few courses through St. Thomas, in order to get my teaching certification. I've also completed training, tested and am now a Registered Massage Therapist. Currently, I am back in college at SHSU, working towards my Masters of Education. Learning IS a life long process Workplace I've worked a lot of part-time jobs, while going to school... Randall's in Humble, Sears Catalog Dept., Pappasitos, substitute teacher... I became a certified teacher in 1995. I began teaching Special Ed. in HS (Robert E. Lee in Baytown was my first teaching job). I taught HS full-time 3 more years, 2 in Dayton, 1 in Conroe, and then substitute taught at Caney Creek HS in Conroe while I was going through my divorce. I returned to my "roots" in 2000, when I began teaching a new grade level (5th and 6th) at Eckert Intermediate School in Aldine. Before I started teaching 5th and 6th grade I would have told you I would NEVER do it, now I can't see me teaching any other age group (unless I taught in college). Three years ago I fulfilled another long time dream, I completed courses and became a Registered Massage Therapist. I find this as rewarding as teaching, if in a different manner. I am overwhelmed when I have clients that have been suffering from headaches, muscle problems, etc. and I'm able to give them relief from their symptoms. It is so rewarding to be able to help others!
