Cathy's Story
Life
After high school I attended college at IU in Bloomington and later on at the Medical Center in Indy. I received my BS in Nursing. I returned home and worked at St. Anthony's Medical Center in Surgery, Labor and Delivery and Neurosurgical ICU. In 1981 I moved to Tampa, Florida where I met my husband, Keith. We married in 1986. We have 2 children, Brett, who is 21 and Jordan who is 18. After 10 years in Tampa we moved to Atlanta, GA. I never liked Florida. It was too hot for me. Our family enjoyed Atlanta but after 10 years my husband had a great job offer in FLORIDA!!! We moved down to Jacksonville, FL in June of 2001. I'm trying to acclimate myself again to Florida. It may sound crazy to some of you but I miss Indiana, especially the snow. Aside from volunteering at my church, I've decided to return to school. I want to get my Master's in Nursing and become a nurse practitioner. Needless to say, I'm very busy. My son, Brett, graduated from high school in May of 2007 and is attending Florida State. My daughter is a freshman at Florida Southern College.
School
After graduating I attended Indiana University in Bloomington and majored in nursing and minored in psychology. I loved my experiences in college. I just wish I had taken more advantage of all the cultural events that occurred on campus. After my freshman year I moved to the Medical Center in I...Expand for more
ndianapolis. I stayed there for three years. After graduating with a bachelor's in nursing I returned to "DA REGION" and worked at St. Anthony's in Crown Point. I worked in labor and delivery, surgery, and neurosurgery ICU.
After 10 years I moved to Tampa, Florida where I met my husband, Keith. We lived there for 10 years. My son, Brett, and daughter, Jordan, were born there. My husband then received a job transfer and we moved to Atlanta, Georgia. We enjoyed living there. I especially did because I discovered that Florida was too hot for me. At least Atlanta had four seasons.
Unfortunately, my husband received a job offer he couldn't pass up. The problem was it was in Jacksonville, Florida. We moved to Jacksonville in June of 2001. I'm still trying to adjust and continue to have withdrawal symptoms. While, I don't miss the ice in Indiana, I do miss the four seasons and the snow. I hadn't been back to Gary since 1985 until the summer of 2004. I came back to visit some family and show my kids the area. Unfortunately, my daughter had heard so much about how the area had deteriorated that she had no desire to see where I lived or went to school. We didn't get any further north than Merrillville. Sadly, I felt the same way. Now, I'm trying to return to school and get my Master's in Nursing/nurse practitioner. I should have done this when I was much younger!!
