Cathy's Story

Cathy's schools include South High School. I lived on Pontiac Street, behind the football field. It was fun hearing the marching band practice from my bedroom window. I played violin in the orchestra and still have the same one, from the 1940's era. It's coming apart at the seams now, as the glue is dried and crunchy, poor old thing. *Note to self: Find violin maker.* I still enjoy all genres of music and play a bit of piano and guitar now and then, as well. My main classes at school involved secretarial sciences (Mom said she didn't care what I did, as long as I had something I could support myself with - smart woman!), although I also enjoyed English and History. I've lived quite a number of places - San Francisco Bay Area, Sacramento area, 22 years in South Lake Tahoe, CA, and the past seven years in The Netherlands. Since I've been here, I've been lucky enough to see quite a bit of The Netherlands, spent a long weekend in Paris and May 2014 we spend three weeks in an old water mill from the 1500's in Italy (reconditioned for the most part, of course). "My boyfriend and I are going back to Italy (driving again) for vacation May 2015, but staying in a more modern place. *Note to self: Take own coffee maker. The Italian ones are weird.* Workwise, I've done all sorts of things (as well as secretarial...ha): Secretarial things were ComputerLand Corp working in marketing, TMI Equities as secretary for the regional office, legal assistant, and other fun and interesting places. I was a singer (kinda fell into that one) at Clancy's Bar in Jack London Square in Oakland (during the Oakland Raiders winning of the Superbowl days) and also at The Overland House (down the street) as we...Expand for more
ll as bartender and cocktail waitress at other venues, worked in the offices at High Sierra (now Horizon) Hotel/Casino in S. Lake Tahoe/Stateline, was a CA licensed day care provider (when my son was four) with three babies under one, two two-year-olds and my son, and, part time for 15 years, was a clown (Toodles the Clown in S. Lake Tahoe area). Yep, I can make the balloon animals and hats and paint your face (or bald head) to a fair thee well! I have a daughter and son who are 22 years apart. My daughter manages an Olive Garden in the San Diego area and her husband is retired Navy. My son is here with us (my boyfriend and I), has learned Dutch, graduated from school (bilingual) and is planning his life. He just got back from Dubai and is thinking about Delft School of Technology (although he's pretty sick of going to school, so maybe later). All were with us in Italy in 2014 and it was just great! My boyfriend and I met online at the end of 1999 and had a long distance relationship for seven years before my son and I moved here. Great guy, great family! We speak English at home, which plays hell with my Dutch skills, as I'm a stay at home person right now. I guess the above are some of the "good", although as in any life there has been "bad and ugly" as well. I try to learn from those situations and just move forward. I've always lived by something Lily Tomlin said as Edith Ann on Laugh-in - Sometimes when I'm happy, I feel just like crying, but when I am sad, I NEVER feel like laughing. So I think it's better to be happy - you get two feelings for the price of one! And that's the truth! *raspberry* As Mark Twain said, "People are just about as happy as they decide to be!
