Cathy's Story
I remember glibly announcing that my ambition was to be a dilletante - I wanted to know a little something about EVERYTHING! I still consider curiosity one of my best qualities. I found a career that fed my need for constant challenge, Speech Pathology. When initial retirement failed to take, I started part time at my dream job: giving tours at a botanical garden. Plants and talking? YES, please. I have now gotten the hang of retirement, but it took a move from LA to Las Vegas (where the grands are) to do it. Lifelong nourishing habits (I refuse to call them "hobbies", it diminishes them, somehow)...Expand for more
include gardening, music, social justice (especially now), writing amateurish poetry and doggerel lyrics. Singing especially fills me. Just about any kind: classical, pop standards, musicals, reggae, calypso, country...All of which is a great segway to my private life. After dating about a month, I had a birthday. Mike gave me a top hat, a cane, and white gloves so I could sing and dance all over the furniture! We have two kids: Kiri (named for Kiri TeKanawa, a Maori classic soprano) and Rob (named after poet John Ciardi). But no pressure. Also two grands through Kiri. So blessed. So grateful.
