John's Story
Black Diamond is my home town. I lived there until I was 2 yrs old, then moved to Renton where my dad had built a house which remains on the corner of Sunset Hwy and 9th Place. We lived in the Renton Highlands area until I was 7 yrs old and I attended the first half of the 1st grade at Highlands Elementary. We then moved to a house my dad built at the NW corner of SE 192nd St and the Benson Highway. I finished the 2nd half of the first grade and through the 6th grade at Spring Glen Elementary. I also attended Dimmitt Junior High during it's first two years in operation, and RHS 9th thru 12th. During my last year...Expand for more
at RHS, I played drums in a garage band and attended as many dances as time and money would allow. To this day I still play on a regular basis. After high school, I enlisted in the US Army, and had assignments in Korea, Ft. Hood TX, and Vietnam in that order. After the military, I attended college, studied mechanical design, and worked in a career that spanned more than 35 years at local companies that include the Kenworth Truck Company and the Boeing Commercial Airplane Co. I am married, have one son and four grandchildren, and live in the Spring Lake area of Renton. I retired from full-time employment in 2008.
