Charene's Story
Life
Charene Virginia Mathews attended the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, where she was a member of Mortar Board, the Crimson Tide newspaper staff, Triangle, and Sigma Delta Phi (journalism honorary}, Phi Beta Kappa, the Student Council & Who's Who in American Colleges & Universities.
In 1966 she married Gary F. Smith, Electrical Engineering graduate of Bama in 1967. His first job was with Philco contracting to NASA in Clear Lake City, Texas, near Houston.
Charene transferred to the University of Houston in 1967 where she graduated with a major in Communications (Journalism & English). In 1968, Charene & Gary moved to Charleston, SC, where their first child, Michael Bradford (Brad) was born Nov. 3, 1968.
Gary changed jobs from Lockheed (Charleston)to Dixie Pipeline in A...Expand for more
tlanta in 1970 and then became Telecommuication Manager for Colonial. The couple still live in the area.
On Feb. 15, 1973 they had a miracle baby, a daughter, Lara Elizabeth.
Brad is now married to the former Tara Densmore of Roswell, GA. They are both RTs (radiological technologists) and live in Acworth, GA with their 3 children, Cassidy Faith 3 1/2, Cameron Michael 21 months, and Callie Hope, born Dec. 17, 2000.
Lara is now an attorney with the Atlanta firm of Gorby, Reeves, Peters, and Burns.
Charene worked for 7 years in the electronics industry. Her last job was as Outside Sales Represetative for 5 Southeastern states.
Now she enjoys church volunteer work, Bible Study, travelling, emailing, internetting, singing, playing her new electronic keyboard, and babysitting those
