Charlene's Story

Life After high school like everyone I was filled with that great wish to get out and learn about the bigger world. I didn't have the resources to consider college at that time. I moved to Manhattan and enrolled in a Beautician School. I knew that that wasn't going to be my life's work. But it opened up the world of options. It was beginning of my journey and no less a learning experience than my future academic pursuits. The late 60's and early 70's were tumultuous times for the country and a time to question our leader's decisions. But for us the baby boomers, hippies, flower power, rock and roll generation it was a wonderful time to come of age. I learned about the issues of race relations, developed my ideas of war and politics, went to marches for human rights balanced with rock concerts and fun. I came out of that time with the want to finish my education and do something that I felt had value and that is ultimately what brought me to Higher Education Administration and a profession of helping kids in college. y position at Monomuth University and off we went on a six year adventure on our 35' aluminum sail boat. we traveled, living aboard down the East coast, out to the Bahamas, to Cuba, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, back through some of the same countries, on to the Dry Tortugas and West coast of Florida, back to the East coast via the Florida Keys and finally north once more. But just paused in NY for a winter and headed up through New England and on to Nova Scotia for our last year aboard our loved boat. On New Years day of 2000 we sold our boat to concentrate on new adventures. 10/2001 We just moved to our Florida house. The sun is shining, we have the another boat at the dock in the back yard, my husband has started building a new workshop below (it is a stilt house) and we even ran a local race already. 7/05 Well, time has passed since the above bio. That was in 2001. Now we have finished cruising in our most recent boat a 41' trawler which we just sold to a nice fellow from California. I still run, kayak, sail, roller blade and bike. It is so easy to do all of these things in sunny Florida! What is everyone else from the class of 66 up to in their lives?
