Charles's Story
Life ..
Let's see .. left VA in '82 after jumping through a few jobs after HS .. let's face it .. I was heart-broke and young and stupid with a TON of growing up to do, and so I started doing it .. logically, I then spent two years drunk and stoned out of my mind at the U. of Alabama and then hanging out in Jacksonville, Fl .. somewhere in there I decided to try the Marine Corps. and sadly that did not work out well at all (the penalty of being 21 and not 18 when I joined) .. I (finally) got clean and sober and landed in Tampa, FL .. decided to grow up a little .. it was 1984 and life was looking a tad better .. spent the next ten years working as a Vol. Firefighter and becoming one of the nations top-ranked Paramedics including Special Rescue, Tactical Paramedic, and Counter Narcotics and Anti-Terrorism Certifications .. trashed my spine on a call late one night .. became an electrician for the next few (about 8) years and ended up in the Bahamas as an electrical site superintendent on the Atlantis Resort and Casino .. destroyed my knee in a job-site accident and came back tot he states for knee surgery and somehow ended up at Saint Leo's Abby a couple of times exploring my faith .. also managed to trash two marriages during this approx. 18-year stint .. I had some more growing up to do ... so I took a year off to travel the United States and Canada .. made it as far as Greensboro, NC to c=visit and old family friend and discovered Parks and Recreation as a profession (a somewhat twisted and confusing story in itself) .. for my mid-life crisis I went back to college (third one now) and became the manager of two regional parks for the City of Greensboro here in North Carolina (it really is God's Country) .. I spent my spare time riding with Bikers for Christ and enjoying the outdoors (even more than at work) .. and in July of that year (2005) I will married the woman of my dreams .. amazing how much better things work when you put everything in the proper perspective .. by now, if you've read this far, your wither drunk or morb...Expand for more
idly fascinated .. I was NEVER this interesting in H.S. ..
1st Update (somewhere in 2008??) .. well a couple of years have gone by since last I stopped in here .. Teressa and I now have two beautiful twin boys (William and Joseph) who are healthy as can be and just cut their first teeth yesterday (both upper and lower front sets) .. my step son (from marriage number way-back-when) thinks the whole "having kids at your age" thing is just down-right funny .. we love it, and I remind him how lucky his two brothers are, since I made all my mistakes on/with him (just teasing) ..
02-15-2013 - Update .. Working for Lowe's Home Improvement these days as a Department Manager .. Kids are (still) healthy as small horses and are six years old .. amazing .. and for my second, or maybe forth, midlife celebration, I've joined the Vol. Fire Dept. in the neighboring town of Madison, NC .. lemme tell ya, I don't know how the rest of you kids are holding up, BUT at age 50 (51 in March) and about 27 or 28 years after I did this F.F. training and workouts back when I was a Paramedic, it now, officially, H-U-R-T-S .. seriously .. what the hell was I thinking?? .. lol .. I am loving it though and getting back into the shape I should have stayed in from the beginning .. for the past few years I have taken up Adventure Motorcycle riding as well, great hobby and teaks me to places I can't see in a car .. swapped out my leathers for that high-tech fancy-schmancy riding gear and don't ride my cruiser anymore since I got a KLR 650 (now heavily Farkled) .. oh yeah .. still have not given up on seeing the US .. later this year I'll be riding up to Nova Scotia to finish off having ridden a motorcycle through all of the States in the eastern US .. trying to swing a visit to Germany next year (Cousin stationed there right now, so the time is ripe for a visit) .. Hope everyone I have not seen in many many years is doing well .. Bergy, bro .. hope you are doing good .. I'll track you down and we can catch up .. maybe through Facebook .. Ride Blessed Y'all ..
