Charles's Story
Arrived in France September 1959, went to third grade at Maison Fort. Started the forth grade at la foret the first year it opened. Left there in May 1967, as it was closing down. That was a sad time, being told by De Gaulle to leave by 1 April 1967, what an April fools!
Ended up going to KTown in Germany for school and stayed less than a year.
Back to the States to Fairborn, Ohio. Didn't like the school and dropped out. West Point due to my scores and turned it down, because " I was only in for three years, then out" Kicked my self later! Did get a BA while in Germany. Married to a French gal in 1977 and have a son and daughter, still going strong, I guess second time was the charm. Ended up staying 20 in the Army.
During my 20, was stationed in Mainz, Baden-Baden, Hanau Germany. Stationed in Bentwaters England for a time too. Was in the 101st at Ft. Campbell Ky. and retired at Ft. Lewis WA. Since then got 3 AA's from a local community college, (they don't need French Linguist on the west coast). Ran retail stores and now I'm a Social worker, working with Developmentally disabled adults.
