Charles's Story
Life
Attended Harris Junior College one year before transferring to William Jewell College outside Kansas City and graduating as an English major in 1961. Married Sue Cooper (who also graduated from M-RH) in 1962. Sue was pregnant, but died of a tubal embolism in August, 1963. God helped me through this tough time with His continusing presence. I continued teaching English at Liberty, Mo. (junior high) I made a transition to teaching remedial reading at Kempsville JH in Virginia Beach, VA one year before becoming a Missionary Journmeyman in Peru. Met my present wife, Cecilia (Ceci) Paredes there. We have been maried since 1968 and have three grown children. We have three grandchildren. We lived in Kansas City, Mo three years before living and working in the former Canal Zone (Panama) from 1971-95. I retired from 19 years service as English/Reading Teacher in 1992. We have been in Melborne and Orlando FL since 1995. We are involved in family life most of all here in Orlando. do. Ceci and I have moved from apartment to a house in the northern suburbs of Orlando, FL. God and my wife and family have been very wonderfully fulfilling.
College
I had a great time while at William Jewell College. I didn't have a car the first year, but did for the remaining years. I pledged Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity and lived in their house after my first year. My roommate during those years was a great friend and Christian Bill Garrett. I was active in the Baptist Student Union, the fraternity, and vocal music. I was in the A Capella Choir for two years and pledged a honorary music fraternity Phi Mu Alpha Sinfornia. I attended the University of Missouri (Columbia) in two segments:one the summer of 1963 (after which my wife Sue died)and the year 1968-69 during which I finished my Master of Education in Remedial Reading. I also was awaraded a sabbatical year of study (1978-80) at the University of Alabama in which I was awarded Educational Specialist in Curriculum Development and Supervision. I have taken numerous courses since in San Jose, Costa Rica; Bogota, Colombia; St.Louis, MO and in Panama.
