Charles's Story

Following high school I studied electrical engineering at the UW on a NROTC scholarship. Upon our graduation Kristine Arntsen (also Class of 61) and I were married and we spent the next four years in the Navy. I served as a technical instructor at the Navy Nuclear Power School in Vallejo, California teaching electrical engineering, heat transfer and thermodynamics. Our first two children (Daughter Karla and son Erik) were born in Vallejo. I returned to the UW in 1970 and completed a Masters Degree. At this time Boeing was starting another contraction so we headed back to Cali...Expand for more
fornia. 1971 through 1980 was spent in San Francisco (our youngest, daughter Kathryn) was born in San Pablo, CA) and Richland, WA working in the nuclear industry. As the nuclear industry sank into the sunset, Boeing was expanding, so we returned to Seattle, and I worked in the defense side of Boeing until I retired in 2006 to care for Kristine. Kristine passed away in early 2007. I currently spend my time playing tennis, cycling and maintaining house and yard in Normandy Park and cabin on Lummi Island. My oldest and her son live with me, so that the house is never quiet.
