Charles's Story
Just updated my photo taken in 2014 at Black Sheep Coffee in Bishop CA. A selfie (doh) after attending Youtopia Decompression in San Diego with my son Lucas and with over a week of camping under my belt with only 1 shower from Algodones to Whitney Portal. Dirty, needing a shave but oddly happy and satisfied.
Attending Youtopia was a first for me but probably my last as well. I needed to do something that was totally out of character and Lisa, my wife of 41 years, and my son encouraged me to go. I had just been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, had left my job due to a work related injury and was trying to figure out if I would retire early or press on. Highlight of Youtopia was taking a group shower at Doc Bronner's camp in a clear plastic 40 ft truck trailer...buck naked!
I did end up taking early retirement, shortly thereafter, on Social Security Disability. Promptly lost 30 pounds (am back to what I weighed in HS) and...Expand for more
got my body into pretty good shape. In fact, good enough to climb Mt. Whitney in August of 2015 with my youngest daughter Brigitte! 18 hours, 24 miles (from campsite) and over 6000 ft of elevation gain to the top of the highest peak in the contiguous US!
Working on my photography, if you want to check it out I can be found on Tumblr at cpleblow.tumblr.com. Need to work on a real website one of these days.
Keeping fit through cardio (which is the only thing that slows the onset of PD) and waiting for my partner to join me in retirement (3 years to go). Just bought a new truck (Tacoma TRD Off Road 4x4) and in the process of making it ready to visit as many US National Parks as we can before we get sick of driving and camping!
In the meanwhile we are looking for a new State to call home and scouting the real estate market in Nevada, Arizona New Mexico, Colorado and Utah for possibilities.
Stop by and say hi sometime!
