Charlie's Story

NOTE: Deedy Parker (Ray) is planning a June-July 2011 Reunion Cruise to Alaska with hopes that many can join in on a 10-day roundtrip cruise from San Francisco--any year, any friends or family. Life is good. My Spouse Ann is my best female friend. We met at a work-sponsored white water rafting trip. My 3 Kids and Grandkids all share a love of sports and zest for life and travel. My Job used to be 24/7/365 and not much like what you see on TV or in the movies. Now it is giving back to those those need and want help--especially in the area of football, careers, school and life. Volunteering is so rewarding. School was a means to an end however college was paid for thanks to my kicking foot but a B of A in Journalism did not put enough food on the table nor inspire me daily. School Crush? Too many to list. Besides, they know who they are. Several teachers inspired me including Coach Filice, Coach Mortensen, Coach Kearney, Jack Fourcade, Rube Puterbaugh at Alisal. Thank you for pushing me. Sure I'd do it all again but I'd spend less time practicing kicking footballs and more time goofing off like a normal person. Happiest time in high school was the senior trip to Disneyland and writing for the school newspaper, playing football or competing...Expand for more
on the track team. College I was a non-scholarshipped walk-on football player in 1972 who started all 44 games from freshman to senior year and picked as a free agent to the SF 49ers and left Nevada owning all kicking records. Working at the newspaper and at the University, practicing/playing football both semesters and summer months left little time to play and see many friends. A Journalism & Criminal Justice dual major later, it was time to enter the real world. Workplace After some time with the 49ers and Jets, it was off to a corporate world since the military did not desire nor require pilots after Vietnam. Locating people was interesting until it was time to walk the thin blue line for almost 21 years and being able to play tactical fun and Sherlock. This was great before being able to volunteer to return to football roots and give back some of which was given to me years before. Military Could have gone to New Mexico Military Institute but didn't after West Point dropped off the option list. Trying to fly F-4 Phantoms did not work either because I could not put cut-up boxes back together again plus there was a surplus of pilots after Vietnam and no place to fly them so I settled for doing parallel training for many years with them.
