Charles's Story

Life I have been married going on 25 years to my high School Sweetheart Tina,(from Marietta), we have 3 wonderful kids, Emily, Michelle and Nicholas and the newest addition Ally, our first granddaughter. being in the military we have moved around a lot but we call Fort Campbell and Clarksville, TN home and we just bought our first home. life is good. Military Lets see, I went to basic at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo in 1982 and AIT in Fort Lee in 1983 and worked in Supply in my reserve unit (D co 463rd EN BN). after a break in service I returned to the National Guard in Parkersburg, Wv and attended the Combat Medic Course at Fort Sam Houston, TX. I worked as a medic with the 1092nd EN BN for 6 years before going on active Duty in 1996. My first MOS on active duty was at Fort Sill, OK as a gunner on the Multple Launch Rocket System (MLRS). I also worked as a medic and spent some time as the training room NCO. in 1999 I was sent to Korea and was back to gunning. I left Active duty to join an Ohio Guard unit, 237th FSB and was going to attend the Army's nursing program but the unit flaked out on me...Expand for more
and I returned to active duty as a medic in 2001 with the 194th MP co at Fort Cambell, KY, home of the 101st ABN Div Screaming Eagles. While there I attended the Air Assault Course and was promoted to SGT. In 2003 I got my chance to attend the Nursing Program and spent the next year at Fort Sam Houston, Tx and upon graduation in 2004 returned to fort campbell with my nursing license. I was assigned to the Mother/Baby unit at the hospital. In DEC 2004 I was sent to Iraq with the 86 CSH and spent the next year in Baghdad treating coalition soldiers, Iraqi nationals (lots of children, it is so sad that they are in the middle of this), and detainees. While there HBO was there to film our unit for a special called Baghdad ER which aired this past summer, 2006. We returned to Fort Campbell NOV 2005 and thankfuly we had no casualties in our unit, only 1 wounded by a sniper, but he is ok. upon returning I was assigned to the Aviation Clinic as the NCOIC and promoted to SSG. Completed BNCOC in 2007 and I just completed 2 years in the Warrior Transition Unit and will be heading to Germany in FEB 2010
