Charles's Story

If you don't remember Charles, its because you would have known me as Jason. "Write your story to catch 'em up on what you've done and who you are." That's just so too cheeky isn't it... (catch 'em up...)? So,... without a thought to think, I must say that Life as a High school student at Cary High from 1985 to 1988 was many things, but among those most memorable items of recollection is the gloriously orgasmic sense of well-being inspired by the highest echelon of faculty presiding over our indoctrination into the material world; Principle Beavers, Vice Principle Crockett and whatever her name was... Ah, the glory of youth. After dropping out in the eleventh grade, spending a year reveling in my newfound freedom and then contemplating the existential abyss afforded by my lack of scholastic preparation for the real world, I chose the path most traveled by those in my type of situation. I attended Fort Benning "university", in Georgia, and subsequently served three fun filled years of army infantry service from '89 to '92. As a high point of that decision I can note that I did engage with peoples from several exotic cultures, some more no...Expand for more
table than others... For me at least, the first Gulf War was fun in the sun. After leaving the army, I first leveraged that experience toward a Bachelors degree and then carried forth to pursue the true American dream, obtaining a terminal degree in my chosen field of study; for me it was a Masters degree in Fine Art. etc... ____ Hghnm-hmmmm.... Anyway, aside from the obvious sarcasm above, I really did enjoy moments of my time at Cary High, periods of my stint in the Army, all of my time at ECU and had a riot with my exposure to the hippie and anarchist culture at the U of O. It has all been an amazing path to travel and I wouldn't trade a moment of it. I am married now and have two beautiful children ages 5 & 8. Being a father has been the most beautiful and meaningful section of my odyssey. Children are wonders, magical in their essence and amazing to behold as they mature and begin to navigate their own journey into life. Right now I have a full time position at the local college, I make my art, show when I can and teach a lot. Just Recently I was peer nominated for the annual Excellence in Teaching Award. Hoo wood a thunk it...
