Charles's Story

I kicked around for a little while after I graduated THS in 1969. Was almost drafted. My older brother was already in Vietnam and I got deferred for 6 months . He was wounded twice and because of his service and my fathers health I got a permanent deferment. I went to work at Bryce for two years and during that time I got married. We have a daughter, Patricia,( Trish, Tricia) and My son Charles Jr. (Chuck). I ventured into Insurance sales for a couple of years and then became a police officer for the Tuscaloosa PD. I loved serving and helping people. I was a cop for 13 years. I had to quit after I blew out my knee in a scuffle with a drunk Bryce out patient in 1985. I retrained as a truck driver and drove all over the country off and on for 20 years. I've been to all 48 states and Canada and enjoyed how utterly beautiful this country is.People all over the country are alike in so many ways. I didn't like New York or New Jersey folks much. They are really mean and nasty spirited. I had several other knee surgeries during the years but continued working until Jan. 2009 when i ruptured a disc and cause nerve problems in my neck while unloading carpet in N.C. I also found I have Myasthenia Gravis, which causes my body to fight the receptors which control muscle movements and control and it causes daily bouts of really bad fatigue during the day with activity. I have been on Disability since the accident. I broke my hip in Jan. 2010 and had to have a hip replacement . These problems affect my ability to get around much. So I am home most of the time. We have 4 dogs and a cat. A Pit Bull, Suzzy-Q. A Rat Terrier, Rainman, A small mixed breed, Roscoe (P. Coaltrain) and our newest rescue, A Teddy Roosevelt Terrier (toy rat terrier) named "Shorty. Our cat is "PUNKIN." She sometimes thinks she is a dog, she even goes with the dogs out in the yard when they bark like she's barking too." These guys are a real help to me. So much fun and always playing and goofing around. My daughter has 7 cats and has be...Expand for more
en married for almost 20 years. No children. My son has two daughters, 11 and 9. Both attend the Magnet school off Mc Farland. They make much better grades than Papaw ever thought of making. Any of you who remember me know grades were not my strong suit. Boy, do I regret that now. One of those deals where I wish I could get a "DO OVER!" Not much more to write. I am a conservative politically. Did not even think of voting Obama. Don't like his politics. I am not a fan of the Health Care thing they passed. I believe it was rushed through and will end up costing many more problems than it fixes. I support our troops where ever they may be stationed and look at each one as a hero no matter what the job is they do. If they serve and help keep us free, they are a hero in my book. I am a Christian (maybe not the best or worst)and I wish I could be a better helper for others when I can. I was thinking about my life and some old friends when I found this site. I still stay in contact with Dawson Little if any of you remember him. He lives in town and is doing well. I haven't been in contact with almost any of my old friends in many years. Another regret, but ya'll know how hard it is to keep up when you have to be here there and everywhere all the time. I was on the road for almost 20 years and gone sometimes a month at a time. That makes a lot of honey do's pile up when you get home. I don't have any photos to post now, but I don't look like that little skinny dude I was in school. I have expanded my boundaries if you know what I mean! I found Teresa Wurm had visited when I came on site. We lived a mile or so away from one another when growing up. I grew up in Circlewood off Loop Road. Well, for any of you who remember me (and aren't still mad at me for some of the junk I did in school), I would enjoy reconnecting to see how you've been. I Hope happiness has been your friend and continues as you pass through life. It is a necessary tool in navigating a treacherous world. GOD Bless America!
