Charlie's Story
WOW!!! I've been away from this board for a while after fully intending to get more involved a few months ago and it seems a lot has happened..
Give me some time and I'll try to get my profile updated as soon as possible, answer questions and requests, and get a few letters off myself... Maybe find a pic or two to stick up here..
Where to start???
Well how 'bout right after graduation since as most know, my family had already moved to Fla, and though I soon followed since there wasn't a lot of work around back then, especially for a 17 yr old high school grad... Fla didn't last long either for me and I went into the Marine Corps in November '76 where I learned to finally grow up... Well, a little anyway!! LOL! I did though, seriously enjoy my time in the Corps, but by the time my enlistment was up I was ready to move on, but...Expand for more
with a bit of a hitch... When I took the oath of service, one line in particular struck me and made me think... "Too uphold and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic..." And I became determined to learn that Constitution, to know what it meant to swear allegiance to a piece of paper.. You see, that oath wasn't to defend the US government, or even the country, but a paper written almost 200 years prior... So it was off to college for me... Yeah, don't be so shocked... Duel major of poli sci/economics too... And part of it on an academic scholarship!! Gotta leave it there for today, but quite frankly, it wasn't long before the ideals of a young man, and his desire to make the world a better place were literally destroyed in the world of politics ( might as well add, politics as usual)...
