Charlotte's Story

Life Dan and I married 1968. We wanted our family while we were young so they would be emancipated while we were still young and we could travel!--ha ha. Our son, Doug, was born 1969 and died 1990. Our son, Corey, was born 1971. He provided us with a granddaughter in 1995 and a daughter in law 1996. She's more like our own daughter than a DIL. (She's our granddaughter's mom). Dan hopes to retire at 62 and THEN we can do our traveling!! He's already counting down the pay periods until retirement! (He'll be 63 soon and still working. Oh well. We just create a new time line and go from there. I take my dog for a walk. Where we can I don't use her leash and she frolics around like a filly in the field. To her a walk is like giving her the best gift EVER! She is very appreciative and I forget about everything else. She smiles so brightly it warms my heart. My current age is 61. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be VERY OLD. I was so completely wrong. I feel 30 and am so shocked when I see myself in the mirror. "Is that my grandmother?". My best friend would tell you I'm loving and caring, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as a dry humored, mean looking old lady. ouse for a t-shirt. I dress very casual. I don't want to have to think about the condition of my clothes while I'm busy playing with my granddaughter, walking in a park by the shore, etc. In other words....I'm more interested in life than I am in pristine clothes. I hate to fuss over my clothes or hair. I share my home with my husband, whom I find very wonderful, loving, caring, -- I don't have enough room here, nor enough words to properly describe Dan. If you needed it Dan would give you the shirt off his back. He helps people, even strangers, and never takes a penny for his help. I have to amend that! Dan has never met a stranger, only a friend he hasn't yet met. In 10 years, I hope to be an artist. I'm going to get there by practice, practice, practice. My first job was at Skyline Foods, In Woodburn, OR, where I got paid $2.00/hour to candle eggs, operate the carton filling machine and load filled boxes in the shipping boxes by hand. What I remember most about it is trying to balance on one leg to run the box stapler to make the shipping boxes.. Mama woke us up to see the snow falling. In Coburg, OR, in the 1950's and '60's we RARELY had snow. We ran outside in our nitegowns, barefooted and enjoyed the snow. The strangest part is that we were not cold.
