Cheryl's Story
Greetings,
I give thanks to God who has certainly blessed me over the years. When I look back at all the dumb things I used to do, I often wonder how I survived, or how I am still alive.
As a child, I always dreamed of becoming a teacher for elementary children. Perhaps one reason why I desired this profession was simply because I didn't like school when I was younger, and I thought that I could teach with a little more gusto and enthusiasm. Hence, my teaching career was born! Presently I teach first grade, however, I have taught, k-3 and six, seven and eighth grade. There hasn't been one grade level (or building in this district) that I haven't enjoyed teaching in. I like all grades for different reasons; however, my heart still gravitates to the needy kids.
I enjoy my family get-togethers! I grew up with 3 brothers and 3 sisters...we used to call ourselves the Brady Bunch, that was until my youngest sister was born. Now, we all consider ourselves blessed to have each other, (AND our parents). :)
I have been married 26 years to Geoffrey Hering. We have two children who are the love of our lives. David is 24 and working in the electrical union. He owns and is remodeling a home at the north end of town, but assures his father and I that when he marries, he will make sure his kids go to PHHS, tee, hee!
Our daughter is 21 and is attending GVSU (Grand Valley State University). Tiffany is finishing up her 3rd year at Grand Valley and is seeking a degree in Public Relations. She would love to travel and says once she lands her "future" P.R. job, she is sure the business may want to send her back to Paris, France! :) She has so many things she likes to do that it would take too long to mention them.

d economy as it is, there is no work to be found. (Anyone hiring?)
Geof keeps busy with helping out at our church, (Hillside Wesleyan), assiting friends in need, sorting "stuff" out in our basement and garage, fixing things...you name it, Geof has done it. One of my favorite things he does is cook for me. It is nice to come home from work and not have to worry about what to make to eat.
As for myself, I have had numerous operations over the years, and believe it or not, I have finally discovered why I am short and shaped so differently! I had something called a "tethered spinal cord." There is something for you to look up! :) I have had a journey and expect it will continue until the Lord calls me home.
I like teaching children and see myself doing this until I retire. There is never a dull moment with elementary kids, sometimes you laugh, and sometimes you cry...regardless of difficult times, there is always good to be found in everyone if you are willing to look for it.
I enjoy computers and have assisted numerous people with creating and making things. I often have to convince people to "play" and discover what you can do on a computer..."You can't hurt it", I say, "So push those buttons on the keyboard and find out what is available." :)
I love music! I love Christian and Pop music. Every now and again, I get the hankering for some good 'ol Segar, Frampton, ELO, Led Zeplin, Who, REO...you know the year! :)
Presently, I truly enjoy how my faith has grown while at Hillside Wesleyan. God never said life would be easy, but he did say he would help us through it.
I have been to enough funerals this past year...it certainly makes you stop to think about life in general and remember to "not sweat the small things."
