Cheryl's Story
Life
After graduating from UCBerkeley with a BA Degree in Journalism and Music, I married cartographer- artist-sculptor Albin Greger from Germany. We were married for just under 30 years; lived in Fremont, CA; spent a good deal of time in Germany; had two children: daughter, Karine in 1963-son, Christopher in 1965.
Karine and husband Todd Dunning have two children, James and Camille. Son Christopher earned a Ph.D. in English Lit. at UCBerkeley and New York University. He is now a tenured English Professor, and is married to Keri DuLaney, another college English instructor. They now have a healthy 1-year-old son, Liam. This makes Chris one of the few males with cystic fibrosis to have fathered a child!
During my early married years I worked as a private piano teacher and as a music instructor at Ohlone College in Fremont, CA; then began writing for area newspaper. Married since 1993 to Dr. Warner North, a scientist/mathematician/risk analyst, and the two of us travel a great deal all over the world for both science and music. We attend scores of concerts, operas, and recitals yearly -- part of my job and for fun.
With marriage to Warner, I also gained a stepson, Evan, 27, who is now at Georgetown University working on his Ph.D.
I still play piano and accompany Warner, a baritone. However, arthritis in my fingers messes up my piano playing somewhat! We both sing together and tour as members of the Yale University Alumni Chorus and have participated in concerts in the Kremlin, Maryinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, St. Paul's in London, Carnegie Hall in NYC, and more.
I hope there will be a CSUHS 1950s decade class reunion in the near future. Would also love to hear from any former classmates! Attending high school in Coachella Valley was a magical experience.
