Cheryl's Story

Cheryl's schools include Los Alamitos High School. I loved flexible scheduling, being in the first graduating class and being part of choosing school colors, the Griffin mascot and P. E. clothes having voted for them near the end of our time at Oak Jr. High School. I enjoyed being with the original nuclear body of classmates in 10th grade on the Pine Jr. High campus, our first year as official Los Al students, because our new high school wasn't completed yet. Then, for 11th grade, we moved into a beautiful state of the art brand new school adding a new class of students each year till all three class years were filled. Each morning we started the day in our Flexible Scheduling class trying to fit our classes into 15 minute time frames called modules. Later the modules were twenty minutes long. Over the intercom we listened to Arlo Guthrie singing Alison's Restaurant and heard a litany of announcements while we looked on the morning master schedule of classes to see if our teachers needed to see us for two, three or four modules that day as well as what time and where the class would be held. as like figuring out a little puzzle everyday. The boys tucked their shirts in and the girls wore dresses. Students respected their teachers. Occasionally someone was caught smoking in the bathroom or a fire alarm went off. All in all students behaved fairly well. We were loyal Griffins to the end cheering on the players with "Uh, unga-wa, Griffins got the pow-a". Those days in High School are marked in my mind as a special and privileged period. I got to be part of a unique time in the history of Los Al with a wonderful group of students and teachers. That was forty-five years ago, and, like raising children, I'm probably tending to remember more of the positive and forgetting the negative. Oh well, in a couple of decades I may not remember any of it so iI guess it really doesn't matter much anyhow. A few times over these many years I've wondered if I would like to do High School over again. The answer is always the same. I would. But only if I could know then what I do now and that only happens in the movies... My regards to any who may read this through a Classmates visit:^] Cheryl Fuller Class of 1970 PS I never went to California High School and Duck Dynasty is not my very favorite show:^[
