Cheryl's Story
What a long, strange trip it's been.
Let me try for the "yellow-highlighted" version.
After high school I went to secretarial school (Berkeley-Claremont). I became a legal secretary then went on to a slew of jobs both secretarial and non-secretarial.
Fast forward to 1983 - I went to Grumman Data Systems Institute and went into the Data Processing field.
Fast forward to 1990 - I went to what was then the New Center for Wholistic Health Education and Research (now the New York College in Syosset). I became a licensed massage therapist.
Can you tell I had no idea in high school what I really wanted to do with my life? My family encouraged me to be a secretary like my mother. I expected to graduate secretarial school, work for a law firm and hopefully marry a really nice, financially stable lawyer, have a house with a nice fence, a few kids, cats, dogs, two cars in the garage, and all that. Didn't happen. Didn't even come close.

bby teen to a morbidly obese adult (emotions can do that to you). In 2005, I had bariatric surgery (gastric bypass). In 2004 I weighed 406lbs. I've lost over 200 lbs and can now say I am under 200 lbs and still losing. I'm about 15-20 lbs from goal.
I've become very active volunteering with cats and dogs via the League for Animal Protection of Huntington (I'm a board member).
Who am I really? Well, I'm still Cheryl. I still love mental pursuits... love to learn and study. I still keep only a small group of friends but would love more. I still am looking for how I can make a difference in the world. I used to think I'd make a difference by becoming a wife, mother and doing volunteer work. I do the volunteering part, but often wonder if I'm really making a difference. Does anything I've done or will do matter? Why am I here? Guess I'm still looking to answer the big questions in life, the philosophical ones... the ones that just never have an answer.
