Cheryl's Story

Life 2003 After graduating from Fairmont East I moved to Anaheim, CA and actually worked at Disneyland for a complete summer. Then I got serious with my life and took the civil service exam and landed a job with the United States Post Office as a letter carrier. During the first two years I transfered to the San Diego area and have never left. So far I have been with the post office for 29 years but had to stop carrying mail when I injured myself and had my first out of 5 back surgeries. I ended my career working with the Postal Inspectors which is the law enforcement part of the Post Office. During the beginning of my career I had a beautiful daughter who is 22 years old now, she has moved out, is getting ready to get married, works as a sells rep for Waste Management, and they are in the process of purchasing their first home. She has always been my greatest life acheivement and my best friend. I'm no longer with her dad which you all knew (Doug Pittman)due to his life went down a different trail and it did not include Stephanie and I, but I'm happily married to my other best friend now for the past 11 years. The years have gone by so fast and I am getting ready to retire and do all the fun things they say you get to do when that time comes. Life has been great living out here in the San Diego area. It's hard to complain when you live in one of the most beautiful cities within the United States. 2007 Another 4 years have gone by since I wrote that first bio. My daughter is married and going on their 2nd wedding anniversary next month. They did buy that home just in time before the prices out here have and every where else sky rocketed. They also started their own metal precision company that within their first year they had to expand. I quess I can say I am a really proud mother and mother-in-law. At this time no grandchildren which is fine because frankly I don't fill like a grandma yet. Still happily married myself going on 15 years now. My retirement finally went through and it feels great and my back problems are always going to be there. But I'm no spring chicken anymore and as s...Expand for more
oon as my husband retires next year maybe then the real fun will begin. Hope everyone from the Class of 71 are all still doing great! Workplace After high school I moved to California and landed a job at Disneyland for 1 summer. During that time I studied for the civil service exam and passed with flying colors. Within two weeks I was called for 3 different positions within the post office and landed the job for letter carrier. This was the best job I could ever get, what being outside in the California sunshine was great. Before my 90 day probation was up I had an accident and herniated two discs in my lower back but continued working till I ended up having surgery almost a year later. After that I was unable to carry anymore and was put inside doing work on the night shift. That was the worst thing that could have happened to me. My life was completely changed after that until I landed a position working at the Downtown Post Office in San Diego, CA on day shift. My life started turning around for the better till I had to have another back surgery 15 years later. After 29 years with the Post office and the Postal Inspection Service I have had 3 more back surgeries and on my way to submitting my paper work to retire. Even after all that I loved my job and wish I could go back but everyone says and I agree your health is the most important thing you have. Now it's time to do all the things you didn't have time to do when you were working. For those of you who don't know me as Wallingford that is my maiden name during high school, when I started the post office my last name was Pittman. Then l married a postal employee by the last name of Lacey which only lasted 6 months, (they always say don't date let alone marry someone you work with). When my daughter turned 10 I met and married someone that didn't work for the post office but I had become a traitor and went over to the Brown company, your right United Parcel Service and it has been over 15 years married and 17 years together so something turned out right. So my name ended up being Cheryl Lacey-Mallory, but everyone called me Cherrie or Lacey.
