Cheryl's Story
Life
I've been married for 33 years to Ray Dean Young. I have a daughter, Christine and one grand-child, Haley.
After high school graduation, I attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University in Durant, Oklahoma for two years. There I met my future husband Ray. He played basketball on the college team. We got married in January 1971.
I didn't want to send my daughter to day care so I opened a day care center in my home. I did this for 10 years. I started substitute teaching at that time. I just traded working with babies and toddlers to work with older kids (7th-12th grade students). I retired 6 1/2 years ago when our
grand-daughter Haley was born. I retired to take care of Haley when she was born. I didn't want her to have to go to day care. We get to spend a lot of quality time together.
My husband, Ray taught Senior class students Oklahoma History and World History. ...Expand for more
During this time he also coached high school girls and boys basketball and was a basketball referee at the same time He did this for 18 years. During this time, he was also in the Oklahoma National Guard. He retired from the national guard after 23 years of service. He got his Master's Degree in Education and then got his Administrator's Certificate so he could be a principal. He was the principal at our Junior High (7-9th grade)and is now the principal at our Hugo Intermediate school which is 5th and 6th graders.
Christine graduated from SOSU and is a youth counselor at our Choctaw County Youth Service Center. She works with troubled kids in Choctaw County. She'll be 31 in July.
We visit my Mom in Aiken each summer. She still lives on Evans Road. My dad passed away a year after Ray Dean and I were married.
That about covers what I've been doing since high school graduation.
