Cheryl's Story

Life has been full of blessings, full of fun, and full of interesting people and things to do! I have two loving daughters who have both married and have children of their own; Melissa McNeil Peters who lives in Mobile, a mom of 2 boys, and has a enjoyed a long career in banking services, and Anglea McNeil who lives in Parker, Colorado, who is a mom of 3, and a successful mortgage loan processor. My 5 grandchildren know me as Nana. My first job after graduating from Davidson was as a computer programmer with Delchamps. Most all of my college courses were taken at the University of South Alabama part-time while I was working full time at Delchamps and then later at the The University of Denver Women's College. After Delchamps in Mobile I was with Morrison's and then International Paper Company. For a while in the late 70s and early 80s, I ran my own software development company there in Mobile developing and installing turn-key computer systems for smaller businesses - software, hardware, installation & training, By the mid 80s that had grown to 13 employees. After the sale of that business, I joined The Mobile Press Register as their 1st Director of Information Systems. I'm really fortunate to have had the opportunity to move to Denver, Colorado in 1988 when I was offered a similar position with The Denver Post.. I loved living in Colorado so much. However, I still have to come back to the Gulf Coast as often as I can to get my fix of the beach and salt water, and of course to visit family. After working with The Denver Post for several years, I then lived in Breckenridge, Colorado from 1996 to 2010 where I was a Real Estate Broker. I have enjoyed scuba diving quite a bit and it's really funny to me that I didn't learn how to do that until I moved to Colorado. I try to ta...Expand for more
ke at least one vacation a year where I can scuba. I also play a pretty good game of golf and have enjoyed playing on the ladies leagues over the years. group. It would be pretty bad to have lived in a ski resort and not know how to snow ski, so I do that too. Unfortunately, I don't ski, scuba, or golf as much as I would like to these days. Traveling has become a great past-time. I spent several weeks visiting Nepal, India and Thailand in 1998, trekking the Annapurna region of the Himalayan Mountains for two weeks and toured the Everest region by bicycle and private plane. The opportunity to visit those countries and actually stay in their villages, among the local people, was a life changing experience, full of many fond memories but also some very sad but enlightening ones. My most memorable trips have been those to Israel and the Bible Lands. I love The Lord and to be able to walk those same grounds and see where it all happened really brings my times reading the scriptures to life. Many of my young adult life experiences pulled me away from my close relationship with Jesus and I must say it has been very special to me to have renewed that incredible relationship and path in my life. Lord, thank you for your Grace. As I update this writing today, I am 68, married to an amazing husband,Ron, who happens to be Canadian, and we are living in Kelowna, British Columbia. Most of our travel these days is to escape the Canadian winters by returning to the United States in our motor home, usually to Arizona after a stop in Colorado going and coming. Like most at our age, we are slowing down a bit, but still doing pretty good. I hope all of you out there are still healthy and enjoying many happy moments in life and all the blessings of a good and spiritual life. All the Best, Cheryl
