Cheryl's Story
Born in Knoxville, TN; raised in Asheville, NC; lived in Henderson, NC for 28 years; have lived in Oxford, NC for 9 years; don't plan to move again except to 'assisted living' many years from now!
Left Asheville to attend Meredith College. Met my husband through my roommate approx. 1 month later. We married exactly 2 years later. We will celebrate our 38th anniv. this year (2016).
Went back to school at NCSU, graduated in '96 with a BS in Microbiology and a minor in Genetics. 7 years later I returned to school yet again to get a Certificate in Occupational Science in Medical Technology.
I did office work (secretarial, accounting, etc.) at Fast Fare, Inc. and CP&L (now Duke Energy Progress) before my degrees, and owned my own business; since then I have taught Chemistry and Physical Science to 10th - 12th grades, and Math in middle school, worked at our local hospital lab and in Duke's STAT lab, worked at our local Episcopal Church, and at our local library. I have been the primary caregiver for my in-laws for the past year.
My husband has owned his own business for over 25 years and has been quite successful...Thank God!

e have 2 sons, ages 27 and 24. The oldest is back in school at UNC Chapel Hill going for a degree in Geology and the youngest graduated UNCW in Dec. 2014 with a degree in Computer Science and has been working a job he enjoys in Raleigh at a computer firm. So we are empty-nesters! No marriages or grandchildren in site (bummer)!
I have 3 cats: Little Bit, an orange tabby who is 26 lbs. (nicknamed Tubbs), Jordan, a domestic house cat that 'wears' a tuxedo and was a rescue adoption, and Little Mama (nicknames Little Girl) who is solid black and was a tiny stray we found. They complete our household of residents.
My husband raced motorcross when young and still loves to ride and repair bikes. He has 3 bikes now; a V Star, an '87 Honda Goldwing, and a '99 Honda Valkyrie (my favorite). We are hoping to take a few long (2-4 days) trips on the Valkyrie this year (2016) in prep for taking a few 7-10 day trips in the coming years.
Asheville is still 'home' although I don't make it home as often now since my mother passed in 2013. When I am home I visit relatives, drive to TN often, visit the fun little odd shops, and enjoy the scenery.
