Scott's Story

Life I was born in Hayward, CA, but grew up in Port Orchard, WA as a kid. My maternal grandfather was my best friend. He was part Native American and we used to work in the garden together and catch toads. At 15 I moved to Wake Forest, NC. In high school I focused on foreign languages, first Spanish, then French and Latin. My interest in languages grew over time and I found that I had a gift in that area. My senior year I took a trip to England, France, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the Vatican, Monaco, and Spain. I attended Moody Bible Institute (98-02) in Chicago where I got my BA in Applied Linguistics and made many good friends whom I still am close to today. After college, I lived in a few different places: Grenoble, France (for internship), Ohio, Nevada, and Texas. While living in Reno, NV I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. After 4 months in TX (in Feb.2004), I decid...Expand for more
ed to move to Seoul, South Korea, to teach English. I lived in Seoul for 2.5 years, made lots of great friends and learned a lot about culture. My Korean language skills are getting pretty decent. In August '06 I moved to Busan where I'm teaching English Literature at Glovill Christian High School, and school for Korean missionary kids. I really enjoy it here. I also attend a great church with both Korean and English services and am seeing a nice Korean girl. In my time here I've been able to travel to China and Japan. I'm pursuing a distane MA in Translation Studies through University of Birmingham, UK. After this, I hope to finish off with a Ph.D in Foreign Language Education. One idea I have is to produce language curriculum, for well know languages but also for endangered languages. Now I really love living in Korea, but when the next thing comes along I'll be ready for that.
