Chi's Story

Hello my fellow graduates of Merced High Class of 1994. I know I didn't know all of you but I knew & still know some of you. I have run into a few of you in town since I have been back home in Merced. Our paths may have crossed again at my former work place or at a local bar/tavern down town name "O' Ryleigh's," or the name I like to call it is the "O." Whoever made the comment about me being artistic is correct. Art is my passion. Although I sometimes feel like I am a little bit 🤏🏼 autistic as well being a bit OCD in all. Some of you who I had classes with may recall that I missed alot of days of school. I did play hooky alot. But hey we were teenagers and only live those 4 years once in our life. We had to enjoy them and make them memorable. I did however manage to make up for the lossed much important public education time. IDK how I did it but I eventually became motivated enough and became serious about education and life. It may have been the feeling I got during our graduation ceremony, among other reasons, that many of you were leaving for college. But I was going to be here in Merced for the next few years to come because I did not care much about school back then. It's quite ironic because in talking with a few of my friends who left Merced for college or a job/life else where. They said that they would love to come back to live in Merced but this town just isn't a town with a good enough economy to offer them any jobs/career to be able to make it happen. It's so true. I think Merced has lossed some of the companies that use to provide employment for many of its r...Expand for more
esidents. So in terms of employment opportunities, it has gotten worse. The town did grow a little and we are fortunate to now be the home of the 10th University of California campus but we are not the college town that many expected. I did however was able to have some college life. 3 years at Merced College, 3 years at Fresno State and finally 4 years at the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry. Go "Big 10" Conference!! Even I would never have guessed it back then that I would be carrying the title of Dr. as a prefix to my last name. With the right motivation and God. Many things are possible. I spent another 10 years in college and collect some degrees that I did not need to along the way but this is the foundation of my life. And it was also my ticket to be able to come back home to live in Merced. What an unusual twist of fate. If you have seen me around town. I don't look much like a doctor. As a matter of fact. I do resemble more the rebellious, juvenile delinquent who was often truant back in high school than I do a dentist. But legally, I do have about 10 letters representing my degrees I obtained in my life following my name. 😂🙄 OMG, I am so relieved that it's not a law that I have to write all that each time I write down my name or sign something like my progress notes or drug prescriptions. I have a hard enough time remembering my dental license number, NPi number and my DOB. 😓🥵 I sweat just thinking about it all. In healthcare it's document, document and much more documenting. It's CYA so if someone tries to become wealthy with a law suit against you.
