Carolyn's Story
I graduated from Rampart High School in 1989. I loved Rampart. I moved around and was in many schools, but Rampart was the best! Psychology was ultimately my favorite course and led me to the one thing I wanted to do. Advocate for Children. I was so so blessed to move to Colorado Springs to live with my dad whom id only spent some summer times with ever so often. I never got a chance to really meet whom he really was. At the time I was living with a boyfriend and the way he bailed haunted me for some time. But I couldn't be more thankful as time with my dad grew into an amazing relationship. I got married the same day I graduated from Rampart. My family was all there for my graduation/wedding even great grandma. Ive been married for 32 years. We were in the service so we left Co Springs and moved around quite a bit. My husband deployed to Dessert Storm in Saudi when our 1st born was 8 months. First 6 months he was getting a Pharmacy Degree in Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX. Being a first time mama was not easy. I didnt really know how to be a great mama but I worked hard at it. My in-laws were amazing. They took my daughter and I in for 6 months while he was deployed in FL. They are amazing roll models and taught me a lot about being a good parent. My husband and I tried hard to get back to where we called home. Co Springs, Co. 10 years later after we left the service we returned to Co Springs, Co. Bought our first home after 11 years of renting. We spent 4 years in Fairbanks Alaska. What an amazing adventure. Our favorite. Alaska is a beautiful place. The weather didn't bother us and having long months of daylight gave us an amazing amount of time to spend time with friends. We wanted a big family. Unfortunately that wasn't easy. I lost many babies but best of all We were blessed with 4 beautifu...Expand for more
l girls after 9 years. I love kids. They are so creative, and they are just a sponge for anything and everything. I kept working with kids. I became a Respite Care Provider for the Government which takes care of families whom children have disabilities. "Things always happen for a reason" is my belief. Through my I began taking care for sisters. One of the sisters is deaf. They were brought over unbathed, in dirty smelly clothing, and starving all the time. The mother never showed up on time and many times they just stayed at our home over night. When she abandoned them he husband at that time gave up on them so my husband and I went over and got them. DHS was going to have to place this little 2 year old and 5 year old in foster care and they would be separated. I couldn't bare doing that to them. They were always together and there for each other. A 2 year old taking care of her 5 year old deaf sister. We asked DHS to allow them to stay with us. After many attempts in trying to help their mom she never could be strong enough for them. We got permanent Guardianship and despite the many issues, the stealing food in fear they would get fed, the trauma, 13 years later we have raised beautiful young adults. We have 6 beautiful Amazing Girls. I was blessed by my boyfriend in Grand Junction because he bailed on me and my dad rescued me. I never would have gotten to know my dad for who he was inside out. He became my beat friend. I just lost him in 2019 and I still grieve him everyday. He was part of my life every single day and night. I miss him so much. So even though that boyfriend broke me for some time and I couldn't believe he would ever do what he did....I thank him because he gave me the one thing in my life I would never have had if he didn't turn his back on me, and I wouldn't have met my husband.
