Chip's Story
Life
I was hooked the first time I played drums and got paid for it! I went immediately into the Marines (Band) after graduation. I returned to Chattanooga in 1983 to attend UTC on a full music scholarship. I established "School of Percussive Arts" in 1983, and began to take on drum students. I soon after auditioned for the Chattanooga Symphony, and was accepted as section percussion/drum set. Eventually I got many calls to do shows, recording sessions, club gigs, then great things began to happen to me!
I have been very fortunate to have performed many concerts/shows throughout the US and extensively in Europe (when I accepted a great offer to Play a European tour...of Beauty and the Beast---but in German) The show was "Die Schone und Das Biest" and I did the Premier tour as the drummer and programmer as a "digital" percussionist for dance sequences. an 6 months. On the closing night of "Beauty" I was called to do the 2nd European tour of "Evita", which I immediately accepted (duh)! During the Evita tour I was offered a 2-year contract to tour with a German Pop Star "mary". I had just accepted the contract when my mother became ill. I chose to come home and take care of my "best friend" in 1997....and now she is doing great! I am still in town, playing with the Chattanooga Symphony and doing shows as I get calls. I had the recent thrill of playing congas and percussion for "Mary Wilson" (of the Supremes), and "The Platters", America, Jennifer Holliday, Michael McDonald, The Temptations Roberta Flack, and Al Jareau. I am lucky to have always been able to make my living doing what I love MOST in life- Playing the Drums.
I'd love to see all my old pals if we'd just HAVE A DAMNED REUNION BEFORE WE ALL DIE! Peace and prosperity to you all.
