Chris's Story

After high school I worked at a factory in Bakersfield for 2 years where we made foam car seats for Ford Pintos and cushions for big rigs etc. At the time I was doing a lot of speed, smoking pot and drinking and was engaged to a heroin addict. My sister, Diana Craggs, became a Christian and asked me to come see her be baptized. I did and I knew this was the way I needed to go also. My sister moved to N.Calif and through many prayers for me I was freed from my drug and tobacco addiction all at once. It was such a miracle and a freedom in my life. I took a few classes at the college in Angwin, CA and then met my husband while seeing if accounting was what I really wanted to do. It wasn't, but I married an accountant. We moved from CA. to Portland TN. I had 1 daughter, then a son who had Downs Syndrome and only lived 4 months due to complications. Then I had another daughter. So I am very blessed to have both my daughters living in the same town as I do. In 1983 we briefly moved back to CA for 6 months, decided we missed Tennessee and moved back there. In 1987 we moved to Hendersonville NC. In 1991, my husband and I separated and I began college. I got an associates degrees in Physical Therapy and have b...Expand for more
een doing home health for 15 1/2 years. I remarried in July of 1997. Six months later my oldest daughter was in a car accident and had a severe closed head injury. They did not think she was going to survive and was in an induced coma for a week. She had a shunt in her brain and they had to drain part of the fluid to keep the pressure off to prevent more brain damage. She had to learn to do everything all over again, walking, talking eating etc. She is doing well now, but still has some short term memory problems. She had been smoking pot the night of the wreck and had pulled out in front of a truck. After the wreck when she woke from the coma, she realized that it was God who had healed her and she is a Christian now. Where we live is very beautiful. Lots of trees and mountains. It snows a little in the winter and has beautiful springs with vibrant greens and budding trees when everything starts to come alive again. So in a big nutshell that is my journey in the last 36 years or whatever it has been. My youngest daughter is 26 and has been married 8 years next month and my older daughter is 29 and was married for 2 years, came back home and lived with us and has just recently moved out with her 3 cats.
