Chris's Story

Life Joined Navy 1977 at 17 years old(just), did (20yrs) Aircraft Mechanic 7 Ships,5 Jets,2 Helicopters. I have sailed the seven seas and then some.... Lived in Jacksonville and Pensacola Florida, Norfolk Virginia, Oak Harbor Washington, San Diego and San Jose California, Brucoli Sicily & Tokyo Japan. Married to Japanese wife Chie Kawamura 29 yrs. Retired from the Navy in San Diego 1998. Went to San Jose California in 1998 to work in the chip testing(hardware) industry 1 yr, then to the software industry at Sun Microsystems, Veritas, Symantec and Cisco and MapR (Hadoop) as a software instructor/curriculum developer over the last 25 yrs. Last position was at Couchbase as a technical trainer for an in-memory database company. 2 children, Joe and Roy (twins 2005) They are currently 19 years old and read /write Japanese fluently. The boys are out of the house, it's checkout time...I have always hoped for military service and both boys have received full NROTC scholarships and have applied them at the University of San Diego, when finished they will have a commitment of 5 years active and 3 years reserve Naval service as commissioned officers. My Brother Anthony is a retired Senior Chief( Coast Guard lives in Coos Bay) He did 4 years in the Army and 20 years in the Coast Guard. After being a truck driver in the Army, Anthony went into the Coast guard. He was (like me) involved in aviation maintenance. Look him up if you are ever in Coos Bay. He rides his motorcycle a lot around the country. I have been all over the world for the last 47 years. (6 passports) Been th...Expand for more
ere, done that, got the t-shirt and wore it out. Over the last 19 years I have been raising twin boys with my wife(although she will say she did all the work). My children are healthy and happy and I am close to seeing what life decisions they will make. Current life planning revolves around where to live in retirement. Retired in January of 2023, perhaps in Idaho, Arizona, Nevada or Japan. I just have to find a place my wife is comfortable. I also plan to travel using my Space-A military benefit. Military airlifts allow me to travel world wide with no airfare or very little(Space Available). I got Covid-19 in February of 2021. Spent 1 month on my back in bed. also took the shot when it was available. My kids were only down for a day(blessings of youth). At (62) now 64 years old, things will start to kill you that otherwise would not when you were younger. Having lived what I consider a full life I don't have many regrets, I just wish for more life to enjoy retirement. I was in Portland/Gresham in March of 2021 and got to see my Mother one last time before she passed from Cancer(81). My sister Giana handled everything and was a rock of emotional stability. Giana has moved out to EagleCreek area on a larger property and will take care of my Father Lon(87) when he is ready for some additional day to day care. The Portland/Gresham area has undergone some changes over the last few decades and not many of them are positive. Makes me sad to see what the area has become. Although I do relish the opportunity to see Mt Hood as a backdrop to the area when ever I am there.
