Chris's Story

Life is an adventure. Whether good or bad. Cherish each experience. That is what makes us the person we are today.**After HS I lived in Tahoe City for 2 yrs-ski bum days. I had 2 yrs of College between West Valley and SJSU. But I believe my real education comes from each person I have the honor to cross paths with.**I was married for 18 yrs. Great guy. We're still friends. But we wanted different things. (Plus his girlfriend kept getting in the way.)**I love to travel & have been to 16 Countries thus far-17 if you count NOME, AK where I lived for 2 yrs. At 70 below zero-100 miles from Siberia-on the Bering Sea, it sure felt like a different country. I had the 7-9p Friday night Rock Show on KNOM. I played only 70's music. (Trying to enlighten the masses-all 7 of them...)**I worked for Alaska Airlines for 11 yrs & as a Leisure and Corporate Travel Agent with American Express for 4.**I am currently living a life of leisure & recovering from an accident 15SEP01-where I was a passenger on a Harley when we were broad sided by a truck. My left leg was shattered. I've had 6 surgeries to date.** Before I go back to the land of the employed-I hope to do some traveling. I have free unused tickets to Chicago, Grand Cayman (I'm a Scuba Diver), Washington DC & plan to cash in Alaska mileage for a trip to Scotland.**Whether you remember me or not, drop me a note, I'd love to hear from you. Don't be a Magician... BE MAGIC! My greatest fear in life is not death. But waking up one morning ordinary and predictable. ******************************** As Paul Harvey would have said, "And now for the rest of the story..." Three years ago I had to have my right lower leg amputated. Apx 8" below the knee. Back in 1978 (I was 22) I was water skiing at Lake Berryessa near Napa with Rhonda Fox, her husband at the time Greg (Who she soon dumped, A couple years later married a gem of a guy, Don, for 30+ years now. He's a Ph.D., and they have 3 grown kids.), and brother Brian Fox. After skiing they didn't have a flag or ladder to get back in the boat. So I handed them my ski, life vest, and was treading water until my arms were strong enough to climb in the boat. Another boat started coming towards ours. They were waving the lady away, and had their backs to me. Greg forgot I was in the water so he started the engine to get out of her way. I was sucked into the prop. It started at my foot and went all the way up my leg. I lost 6 pints of blood. It took 1.5 hrs to get to the hospital in Napa. I was in surgery for...Expand for more
5.5 hrs. I was left with apx 6' of scars on my right leg and a drop foot. I learned how to walk without limping. The scars faded. After a few years even when I was in a bikini or shorts, people didn't notice the scars. The reason I got along so well was because I had a strong left leg. Things were fine until the motorcycle accident in 2002 when my left leg was shattered my left leg, I now had 2 crappy legs. The arthritis in my right drop foot became so painful, I could no longer put ANY pressure on it. So off it came. The amputation was SEP'06, but the downhill slide started way before that. Both the truck and motorcycle driver (he ran a yellow/red light - the truck was in a left turn lane) had the minimum liability insurance. So after my attorney took his $70K plus expenses, I paid my bills, etc. I had to foreclose on my beautiful condo on Beacon Hill overlooking the Puget Sound and downtown Seattle. So I moved to Medford, OR to be near my Mom who was in a nursing home there. I moved in FEB'04. Mom died DEC'04. I've always been a glass 3/4 FULL person, with a laugh that shatters glass. But I have been in some really dark places over the last 8 years. Besides my Mom, 9 other family members or friends have died since 9/15/01. Besides the 6 surgeries on my left leg to repair it after the motorcycle accident. I had lumpectomy surgery to remove some cancer in my right breast a week after my Mom died. And then the prosthetic leg. Needless to say I feel like a jig saw puzzle with a few missing pieces. You can look at the photos (I'll mark them current) and decide for yourself. The good news is that my glass is now empty. So I need to get off my ass & climb out of this extremely deep hole. Fill up my water glass, and start living again. (to be continued and grammar/spell checked 13AUG09) 17JUL12 WOW!!!! Sorry it has taken so long for me to update my profile. What a downer that last paragraph was, not to mention grammatically incorrect. I apologize if I put you in a deep depression. I am still in Medford. Not my favorite place to be, due to the fact the summers are hotter than hell. Also spiders, ants, earwigs, and several other crawly bugs seems to feel it is their God given right to take up residence in my apartment without paying any rent. Other than those complaints, things are great. I'm getting around good on my prosthetic leg. I have a darling apartment, right downtown. A couple good friends. I know this is where I need to be for now. That glass is slowly filling up...

To those lucky enough to have Grandparents, cherish them. They are a window to your family's ancestry. If you heed their advice, they can be helpful in your future too. To the 'lucky' Grandparents out there, enjoy your day!
