Chris's Story
I grew up in fort Lauderdale,FL. I miss the beach and my old friends down there, as I've gotten older I've become more nostalgic and a bit more forgiving of the judgments I made about myself and of other people. Moved to Atlanta in 1984 and I'm still here. Lost most of my beloved friends and lovers in the dark days of the AIDS crisis of '94-'95. I still miss them. They are still with me in my heart. So now it's years later, my partner of 13 years has gone his own way and I wish him happiness and peace. I took a "year in the wilderness" (to be single and to be a bit wild) and have grown because of it. I now have a new love,Tom, who I cherish everyday. I can see this as a forever thing in this temporary lifetime we have in this world we live in. We ran off to NYC and got married in September 2011. I'm optimistic, and looking forward to the next thing that life brings to me.".
We've settled into a new condo building in the heart of Midtown Atlanta overlooking one of the largest city parks in the US, Piedmont Park. I'm still getting used to the smaller spaces and condo living since I have always owned houses in single family residential settings. ants to walk to right out the front door. We also have a small get-away place in the mountains of North Carolina between the communities of Franklin and Highlands. It's a small but well equipped cabin with good mountain views and cool nights during the summer. There are plenty of hiking trails and waterfalls to see in the area.
Tom and I are the owners of two American shorthair cats named Norman and Bennie. Norman is the rotund Garfield look-a-like but somewhat shy. Bennie is the grey and white "party cat" who loves to show off for company, is extremely affectionate/playful, but hates to be held or picked up.
I'm not sure what the next chapter in life will bring. We'd like to do some more travel, but Tom does not get much vacation with his job as a pharmacist. My folks are getting older and though their health is surprisingly good, I worry about the inevitable decline and how that would turn out. I work from home since the company I work for closed its offices in Atlanta and moved all the jobs to the NYC area. Working from home is great but it can be a bit isolating since you don't see people all day long unless you go out. If I were a bit more adventurous, I could be one of those guys sitting in Starbucks all day long with a coffee and a laptop. I might try that sometime!
