Chris's Story

After getting my heart broken by Lynn Sunderland, I went into downward spiral of drugs, alcohol and rock and roll. ;-) ( just kidding.... sorta, lol) I went to college for a few years and then got hired to play in a band that had a minor recording contract and dropped out of school, but it never really went anywhere. I just kind of floated around playing guitar and not really going anywhere. My saving grace was a girl I met while working in the stock room one summer at J.C. Penny at the Florin Mall. Jenny, who soon became affectionately known to me as "JC Jenny", was a sweet, beautiful strawberry blonde, with incredible legs. She was just in Sac for the summer visiting her sister. I first met her as she was high up on a ladder getting stock down, with me standing just below her, in the most alluring Midwestern accent she ask, "can you help me get this box down?'" I avoided the most obvious, cliched come back line that came to mind and dutifully complied. We made introductions and the next thing you know we're married in 1975. I didn't plan on staying in the Dayton, Ohio area while visiting Jenny's hometown and parents, but the drinking age in the Midwest was 18 back then and every college town had several bars, so if you could play a few chords on guitar, you could make a pretty decent living. I traveled all over the Midwest, east coast and Caribbean playing in various bands. Of course I had just enough talent to make me think I could hit the big time, so I played the traveling minstrel for quite a few years. Actually, I became pretty good and had several close brushes with fame, but the music business is fickle and with the little woman becoming restless about me being gone so much I decided return to the "real world". She wanted to start a family and I really wasn't ready for it, so Jenny and I decided to get a divorce. While at the lawyers office we discussed our division of assets and at the end the lawyer ask, "are you sure you two want to get a divorce, because you seem to get along so well, in fact I don't think I've ever had such a civil divorce meeting". Well, I guess that's because Jenny and I did still care for each other, we just had different goals in life and that doesn't require you to be mean. In fact, after our divorce, we remained friends. She eventually hooked up with and old hometown boy and they moved to Texas, and the last I heard are living a very wonderful life. Shortly after our divorce, in 1980 I was introduced to Connie. She worked in bank that I walked past to go to lunch several times a week. She obviously had an important job as she had a huge desk and a window view and was always impeccably dressed, incredible hair, manicured, basically, out of my league. One day I get a call from another hottie that worked in the area that I knew and she said she had a friend that wanted to meet me. ...Expand for more
My first response was woof, "but she's got a great personality". She said yes, but she's hot too. She works in the bank you walk past. I guess wearing my pants too tight might have finally paid off. lol Long story short, we were married in 1983 and produced an amazing human being. Troy Brendan Rooney, is about as fine a person that you will ever meet. He is smart, aware, interested, handsome, caring, sensitive, strong, ( 6'2" 225LB, benches 350LB), athletic and just a kind human being. He just graduated from Ohio University and will begin his Masters in the fall. Political Science is his passion and he wants to get into the political process and make a difference. After some business disasters and the stress that accompanies that, Connie and I divorced in 1990. Even though, Connie and I are still best friends and had joint custody of Troy. We went to all of his games together and to this day call each other weekly to lend support and friendship. So after that phase of my life, I thought what now? I had become somewhat of an expert at synthesizers, sound reinforcement, and basically all things technical related to music. I was curious and educated myself in the things I was passionate about. Little did I know that would be the key to my future success. I had always thought that I was smarter than the average bear, but as you may know, I wasn't interested in being a compliant worker bee our system sets us up to be. In fact, after one of my scat tests in high school, my counselor calls me in and says "Chris you tested in the top 5% of the nation, but you grades definitely do not reflect that". I said school is boring. I needed a different road. I did however have some really inspiring teachers in my life and essentially learned there are other ways of educating oneself. Fast forward, I get hired by Korg USA, premier keyboard company, Marshall amps, everything I hold dear as a musician and I find I'm really good at this, teaching music technology, training sales people. In a short period of time I'm making $250K + a year for over a decade. I learned to be good at investing and at 53 retired. I recently invented a really cool product that is doing very well. It was in response to a woman that was jogging and ended up getting attacked and raped. I put my thinking cap on and came up with a solution. I feel really blessed to have been able to make a difference and use my intellect to help people. Check it out at safesoundsports. So here I am in Florida, I live a block or so from the beach, My sailboat is a few steps from my front door and I'm living life on my terms. I have another new business that is going well (just for fun). I would say that this is a happy ending but in fact I have so much more life and love to go, the story is just beginning.
