Chris's Story

Ok, so I haven't seen any of my Classmates in like years. I missed the big 20year reunion. So, anybody been wondering what I've been up to? Here goes. After graduating, I went on to Christian Brothers, where I promptly lost my scholarship due to a lot of video game playing. Another year at CBC (now CBU) and grades were so bad I ended up losing financial aid too. So, I went to Memphis State (then MSU, now UM) to finish my engineering degree. On the 7-year 4-year plan, I was late out of the gate and all the Engineering jobs went to more serious students. I'd met my wife to be, Rebecca, while at MSU, and she waited 2 years for me to 'get a real job' before she'd marry me. She's 2 years younger and graduated before me. Go figure, she's smarter than me. I thought I did wonderful with a 29 ACT score, she was bemoaning her 'low' 32. Since 88, I've worked as a programmer at some 5 different companies - Jostens, Smith+Nephew, Sofamor-Danek, American Metal, and now WM Barr out here on Fantasy-er-Presidents Island. We have 4 kids (2 girls, 2 boys, a matched set, so nobody gets a majority vote) ranged in age from 18 to 3. 3 cats, one bi-eyed white monster dog that eats TREES. and cans. and toys, garden hoses, or anything left in the backyard except the BBQ grill. I wear many hats. I'm advancement chairman for our scout troop, pack committee chairman for the cub pack, Awana Commander for the church, and a Christian Songwriter now. High you may recall me with a guitar in hand. I played American Pie for the Senior Follies and everybody loved it. (I played 'This Old Guitar' by John Denver at the Talent Show and everybody hated it). Well, I got in a lot of girl trouble with that guitar and the angst that goes with it, so I smashed my guitar and gave up songwriting for 25 years. Then one day, in a sermon our Pastor talked about the parable of the Talents, and said 'the talent buried away could have been anything God gave you that you buried and didn't invest in HIS kingdom. SMACK! God said, 'That's YOU. You are the wicked servant - you buried away the songwriting talent I gave you.' (No it wasn't a 'voice from heaven', but it might as well have been. It was obvious he was a-talkin to ME.) So, I surrendered to Him, and let Him use that talent, and I'm cranking them out now - about one a week, since July 2006, about 100 so far. You can hear many of them at Myspace, Soundclick, or our band website, our band name is Buried Talents Band. The tunes are also available at emusic, itunes, walmart tunes, amazon, and a ton of other places. It's kinda hard to miss us if you're halfway looking for us. I put up finished albums (have 1 released, 1 almost, 3 more completely written, and 3 in process. What fun! It's exciting watching what GOD does when you let Him take the wheel. Let me leave YOU with THIS thought - What have YOU done with the talent God gave YOU? C'mon, dig em up!
