I grew up in the 50s, in Washington Heights - uptown in NYC - 191st Street, between St. Nicholas and Audubon Aves. It was great as a adolescent, as I was mobile, having access to great public transportation. You could get to the beach in Rockaway for something like 30 cents! We lived in a 2 bedroom apartment, me, 2 sisters, parents, and my mom's sister. Crowded??? YES, but my folks figured out how to make the dining room the living room and the LR their bedroom, but there still was only 1 bathroom and 5 females. I had one friend who had a tremendous impact on my life - Linda Hettling. She lived on 192nd. She introduced me to MOMA and the interesting aspects of modern art. We also christmas shopped at B Altman's - where her aunt worked. I wonder whatever happened to Linda? And Barbara Pivorotto (sp?) who I bicycled with??? and Marilyn Kelleher, where I recall sleep-overs on a few rainy Friday nights. Sadly...Expand for more
