Chris's Story

Well since escaping from Greene County I went off to college at Cornell. Found out I liked dairy farming. (Who knew?) Worked in central NY, moved to Vermont, and then out to western NY. Worked for an agricultural company for 4 years in western NY. That schedule (or lack thereof) got in the way of having a life so I taught for a year in eastern NY. (Drove 294 miles east every Sunday and drove back every Friday.) Why would someone drive that far? Well, Geoff and I had been together for a while by then and he had moved in in August and I started teaching out of the area in September. Sort of a long distance relationship as he lived in the house I had been renting, took care of the animals, etc. After a year of commuting I got a position teaching Animal Science nearby. Did that for 2 years before I got screwed and went back to dairy farming. Worked on a large dairy for a year before ending up at my current position. Right now I am working to build my own business as a nutrition and management consultant for dairy farmers. In my personal life I was single and moved around a bit before ending up in western NY. teresting guys I posted an ad on Match.com. Geoff and I emailed and talked for a few weeks before meeting for dinner. I think we both knew very early on that we were done looking. That was in April of 2002. We were married on June 25, 2005. We bought a fixer-up farm in the fall of 2004. On May 18, 2007 Geoff was in a pretty nasty car accident and luckily was relatively unscathed. That prompted us to stop postponing a family. Clara Grace joined us 4 weeks early on January 29, 2008 after some complications involving sky high blood pressures. She spent 2.5 days in the NICU and was then released to the regular nursery. By the grace of God she was able to come home with us on day 3 when I was cleared to go home. Clara was born weighing 5lbs 10oz and was 18.75" long. After the first week she was 4lbs 15oz, but now at almost 7 months old she is pushing 16 pounds and is about 26" tall. This girl is just in a hurry to do everything; join the world, catch up, walk, talk, use the computer, etc. That's the very short story for now. Geoff, Clara and I live on a small 6 acre farm in western NY. The rest of the family includes 3 dogs, 2 cats, 2 horses, and a guinea pig.
