I went to Catholic grade school, and was taught the theory of evolution. My parents divorced when I was eleven and I began questioning my faith. By the time I was fifteen, I was completely atheist and I lived the way I wanted. In high school, I was in two car accidents that awakened me to the reality that I was not immortal. Every time I saw another serious accident, I was reminded of that. I barely finished high school and I couldn't keep a job for longer than six months. The only thing I seemed to succeed at was weight lifting, which became my passion; especially since it helped with what I lived for - girls. A friend introduced me to meditation from and I forged my own new-age philosophy on life, believing that man would evolve to become God. I believed that enlightenment came from all writings and all religions, and that there was no absolute truth. A few years later, a coworker of mine began challenging me with evidence for the Bible. He gave me an audiotape that presented the scientific problems with evolution. I was skeptical, so I took notes and investigated it. It was all true. My fiancé and I agreed that we were not living as we should and that we should start going to church. We began to attend regularly and learn more about the Bible, but something was still missing. A month after we were married, we drove past a horrific automobile accident in which several teenagers were killed. I had the worst feeling in the pit of my stomach as I looked at their lifeless bodies covered in the street. I couldn't help pondering the fact that my life could end so suddenly and unexpectedly.
