Christina's Story
During my brief tenure at Lincoln High School, I have fond memories of key individuals, football season and being a varsity cheerleader. Regrettably, my personal life was not as memorable.
I dropped out of high school in my mid-junior year and had a child. It became quite apparent that I needed to go back to school. I attended Garfield Adult School and obtained my GED. I enrolled at East Los Angeles College and after 2 years I transferred to LAC-USC School of Nursing and graduated in 1979 with an diploma in Nursing.
While a nurse working at LAC General Hospital, I met a wonderful man. We got married and had two additional sons. We've been together now for more than 35 years. I continued my education and received a Bachelor in Public Administration from University of La Verne, in La Verne, CA and a Master's in Business Administration from Kenan Flager School of Business at UNC Chapel Hill, in Chapel Hill, NC.
I've had a number of jobs, but my most recent was with Community Health Systems where I worked for almost 4 years. Their coporate office is in F...Expand for more
ranklin, TN. I was a manager of a team of 8 Regional Clinical Informaticists (nurses who work with computers). I traveled to various hospitals across the country helping them transition from paper to electronic documentation (charting notes in a computer). I enjoyed my job and the team of people I worked with.
I began a new job with Cerner Corporation on September 16, 2015. I look forward to beginning a new chapter in my work life. This is a great opportunity because Cerner is a well respected company. I hope to work for another 3 years and then I'll give some consideration to retirement.
In my free time I travel, read, listen to music, consume great food and libations, and get together with dear friends and family. I'm grateful for all the wonderful things I've learned over the years despite the challenges I faced early on in life.
My husband reminds me that it's not how you start a race, but how you finish. As I reflect on the years that have passed and all that I've accomplished, I'm proud of where I am in life, and I look forward to what lies ahead.
