Christine's Story

After 36 years working in programs serving children and adults with special health care needs, including developmental disabilities in Florida and Alabama, I retired at the age of 60 years on December 31, 2008, at Prattville, Alabama. Retirement has been great except I didn't expect to spend so much time in P. T. and keeping medical appointments. Education: I have earned two Masters' Degrees, one in Social Work from the University of South Florida(USF) in Tampa, and the second in Management and Public Services at Nova Southeastern University at Ft. Lauderdale. While in graduate school at USF, I was a member in the International Honor Society in Social Science, Pi Gamma Mu. Post Retirement: After retiring, I resumed an interest in geneology which years earlier started when my daughter , Donna, and I were invited to join Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), in Arcadia, and we did. Even though we are eligible for membership in Daughters of the Confederacy (DAC) and for Florida Pioneers Certificates, we have not pursued them yet, but may in the future, If I do pursue them, it will be for the benefit of future generations so that they will have the required documentation to join, if they so desire. Published Author: At the age of 63 years (2012), I wrote my first children's craft book entitled, Taylor's No-Sew Doll Clothes Patterns,Volume 1,(Trafford Publishing). The inspiration for writing this book and patterns was my granddaughter,Taylor, who at the age of four and half years old wanted to start making doll clothes for her favorite princess and fairy dolls. She is now five years old and uses the patterns for making clothes for her Barbie dolls, as well. These books are being sold world-wide through Amazon.com, Barnes and Nobles, Books a Million and other retailers.Check out my web site using the book's title. Update: I have just learned that my book was chosen as one of the top ten Blue Ink book reviews for December 2012. See web site, publishingperspectives.com 2012. Update: I was thrilled to learn that my book...Expand for more
entitled, "Taylor's No-Sew Doll Clothes Patterns,Volume 1" was given a book award. It is the 2013 Bronze Medal Winner in the category Crafts/Hobbies/ Collecting for the Living Now Book Awards. I am in the process of updating the book cover to reflect the book award. It is being sold internationally through Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble, Book a Million and many others. I could not be more pleased. Family: I graduated from high school then married a few months later at the age of 16 years and divorced at the age of 20 years when our daughter was 2 1/2 years old. I never remarried. During my marriage we lived in Okeechobee,Florida. During that time, my husband and I had one child, a daughter whom we named Donna. After the separation, Donna and I returned to Clewiston and lived with my mother while I worked at the Glades Restaurant as a waitress and attended Palm Beach Junior College. After, I graduated from USF the first time, we moved to Arcadia, FL, where I reared Donna and worked at the state hospital for 13 years. My last position there was Social Service Standards Specialist. After Donna graduated from Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) with a degree in Education, she was hired by Delta Airlines as a Flight Attendant at Atlanta. She worked for 18 years as a domestic and international Flight attendant.I enjoyed many U.S. and European vacations using my Delta benefits as Donna's mother.Donna married a physician and as soon as they learned of her pregnancy, she quit her job with Delta and has been a stay at home mom ever since. She is now wanting to reenter the job market when Taylor starts to first grade . Donna aced her Real Estate class and has passed her Real Estate License exam with flying colors Donna is 46 years old and looks 26 years old as her picture with me confirms.Taylor is five years, very smart, pretty and very creative .My son-in-law,Scott, is a very prominent and successful physician with a Specialty in Family Practice. I plan to downsize soon and move to Buckhead to be closer to my little family.
