Christine's Story
Wow, Class of '78. So much has happened in my world since the day we walked down the aisle to get our diplomas. Seems like so long ago, but yet seems like it was just the other day. After we graduated, I went off to school in the beautiful state of Kentucky to my mother's alma mater, Murray State University, majored in Business Administration & minored in Psychology. Should probably have been the other way around, being that I was the class therapist From jr. high through high school, it seemed that I was consulted by many for their relationship problems. Anyway, I soon found out that going to classes was not my favorite thing & I began majoring in how to drink beer. Since the town I was going to school in, Murray, Kentucky, was a dry county (what, no alcohol?) we had to travel across the Tennessee/Kentucky state line to even buy beer or alcohol. There my group of girlfriends & I (there was about 8 of us that went everywhere together) learned how to successfully play drinking beer games. We had a blast! Well the fun quickly came to a halt when in the spring of my sophomore year, my father was diagnosed with lung cancer. I moved back home to be closer to him but he lost the battle on September 3, 1981. I miss him terribly now just as much as I did right after his death. I moved on to a full-time job with a worker's compensatio...Expand for more
n insurance company & worked there for 3-1/2 years & then had an opportunity to work for a law firm as a secretary trainee. Well, that is where my career as a Legal Secretary began. I had all the good skills that would make a good secretary so one of the attorneys who needed a secretary took a chance on me & taught me the legal ropes of personal injury law. I worked for him until he took a job with another law firm & I moved on to another law firm myself. I worked for a couple of firms & then was hired by Troutman & Williams in Winter Park & worked for Rick Troutman (a WPHS graduate as well) for about 7 years. In the meantime I had married a man about 12 years older than us & that marriage ended in 1990. I continued working as a legal secretary & went to Rollins College & obtained my paralegal certification. Since I was single again, I began living a very risky llifestyle & took some dangerous paths & continued that way for about 18 years. In spite of my bad choices, I do have a beautiful 15-year old son & am now back with my feet firmly planted on the ground & am successfully working again as a paralegal & living in a beautiful condo in South Orlando. I have reconnected with many of our classmates on Facebook & hope to connect with many more. Since I missed our 20 & 30-year reunions, I now look forward to our 40-year reunion!
