Christine's Story
Argentine tango, anyone? It's a great dance to learn at our age and good for the brain as well as the body. I love dancing and have been taking tango lessons for several years. We have quite a tango connection in Austin.
I graduated from U.T. Austin in 1967, B.A. in English, M.A. in Latin American Studies in 1976 (history and communications). Married Larry Gilbert in 1967. Lived in Palo Alto, CA, til 1971, then moved to beautiful Austin, which is still beautiful but now has smog and tons of traffic.
Son Jonathan born in 1977. He graduated in May 2006 from Reed College in Portland, Oregon, and manages a Shutterbug camera store in Portland. bout 8 years. I'm still too young to be a grandma I guess!
Larry is a professor of biology at UT, teaches tropical ecology and is working on the problem of the imported Brazilian fireant. Unfortunately, he doesn't dance.
I am an artist, poet, and editor, and like to travel. I do watercolors, rent a studio space and have been selling my paintings and hand-knit scarves. I also enjoy digital photography. I edited a book for a woman who grew up in Midland, Ruth McEntire Caldwell and lives in Abilene, about her ranch, the U Ranch. She printed 400 fine-press copies. It's beautiful! I'm also working on my family history.
