Christine's Story

I always wanted to be a writer when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was an interesting idea. As it turns out, they were right.. I write. ... mainly for myself.Don't write poetry as much anymore. Last time I did was after 9-11. It changed my family's life forever. As, I know it did many. What I initially thought was that it was the end of the world... now I know that we have to fight to go on. Life can be that way.... we have to fight for happiness, love, others and our health. and our freedom. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have my planbook, picture books, and games to be able to deal with the day-to-day. This is what I did... i taught. I met so many fine people and kids. I am inspired by people who help others ... particulalrly nurses, teachers and firemen. Also my girls inspire me because they are the best things in my life. along with my husband and my family. My husband, Vinnie is my hero because he loves to help others and make them laugh. He also has a great outlook on life. My first job was at Grants, where I got paid minimum wage to cook and wait tables. What I remember most about it is was that it was hard work!. and very greasy. In 10 years, I hope to be a fun grandmother.. I'm going to get there by staying healthy.. and, hopefully my girls will do their part. I am proud of my career as a teacher. I loved my kids and got to know many wonderful colleagues and families. Teaching made me do things I feared... such as speaking in front of others. Being a kid at heart, I enjoyed working with them. Kids are amazing because they are usually totally uninhibited. I share my home with my husband, Vinnie and my pets, a dog and a cat, which I find makes my life very happy..We love our animals. I used to have a frog, too, which I bought as a tadpole for my ...Expand for more
class. He lived to be 18. Bohemian... I love it. Still wear the bandana from the 70's. Live in jeans and skirts. If I love it, I don't care if it went out of style 20 years ago. My best friend would tell you I'm funny, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet. No, I am retired and I love it. What is not to love? Trying to get to all of the things I never had time for. My current age is 58. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be old. I was so completely wrong. As we all know,,, if you act old, you feel old, you will be old. Yes , I lived in a dorm in college and loved it. Hate the sorority fraternity thing. Too many kids are harmed by it. My kids have taught me how to laugh and love more. I adore my animals. I have become a big football fan. Enjoy skiing, boating, gardening, walking. Only show I really love is American Idol. My obsession is knitting and I still love to sing. I really love to create. I have lived in several places.. besides ny, lived for a few years in California. To me, it was so unlike NY... everywhere I went in Monterey, I saw the spanish influence... red tiled rooves, poppies, bouganvillea, and palm trees..... and of course, the Pacific... too rough to swim in and too cool anyway in Monterey. I also lived in Alabama... red clay and the bible belt. Now I live in North Carolina, where I hear the owls at night, can be at the ocean in 40 minutes and have a big garden. If I could, I would do high school over... it was not a happy time for me. There were so many people I should have gotten to know better. Being so inhibited and shy, i did not seek others out. I really enjoyed Dr. Robert's class and Mrs. Linton's as well. I would love to see Mrs. Maxwell again. I think she was kind and she encouraged my writing.
