Christopher's Story
First and foremost, God has surely blessed me--that being said it hasn't always been a bed of roses. I married in 1991 at the age of 23 and now have three lovely children. A 15 year-old girl, 10 year-old boy, and 4 year-old daughter.
Here's the rest of the story...I was a dependent living with my family at Rhein Main AB, Germany when I attended Frankfurt American H.S. for my sophmore and junior year. I was probably enrolled from 1983-1985. My father then received orders to Barksdale AFB, LA and I ended up attending Bossier City H.S. for my senior year. While living here I made a little money by bagging groceries, working at Burger King, and working for a company that built and set up displays for department stores. Nevertheless, shortly after graduation the USAF moved my father to Maxwell AFB, AL. I wasn't ready to live on my own so I moved with my family to Prattville, AL. While living here I worked at a plastic recycling plant in Montgomery and at Kmart in Prattville. I eventually came to the conclusion that I needed to do something to get out of my parents' house and to earn money for school so I enlisted in the USAF on 12 Nov 1987. Since then I have served/lived at the following locations: MacDill AFB, FL (Tampa), Tonopah Test Range, NV (Worked at Tonopah and lived in Las Vegas), Saudi Arabia, Shaw AFB, SC (S...Expand for more
umter), Kunsan AB, ROK (South Korea), Sheppard AFB, TX (Wichita Falls), Moody AFB, GA (Valdosta), Eglin AFB, FL (Fort Walton Beach), and Tyndall AFB, FL (Panama City). Read this list as lots of broken furniture....
Overall, the USAF has been good to me. It provided ample opportunity to go to school and I've taken advantage of it. I've earned 3 associates's degrees, 1 bachelor's degree, and I'm 4 classes shy of a Master's in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (should have been done years ago--shame on me).
Taking advantage of the doors opened by my USAF sponsored education I applied for Officer Training School in 1997 and was commissioned as an USAF officer in Jun 1998. I'm currently a major and serve as Chief, Aircraft Maintenance for First Air Force which is the air component to North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD)and Northern
Command (NORTHCOM). Our two primary missions are to defend our (United States) aerospace and to provide Defense Support to Civilian Authorities in a time of crisis such as the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
That's all for now--it is time to move again. I will let you know where we are going when I find out....
The latest and greatest...I've been assigned to Luke AFB, AZ which is just NW of Phoenix. We should be moving this summer...more to come.
