Christopher's Story

It's a funny thing to write about yourself, but I guess I will begin with the summer after HS graduation. I lived in France that summer, then went off to the University of Scranton in PA. Dropped out after three years, took a semester off, went back and dropped out again. Never did like insititutions, especially high school. During this time I finally was able to visit Korea and subsequently got in touch with my birthfather. Then I joined AmeriCorps*VISTA for two years. First, I went to Kansas City and worked as a GED Coordinator at the local PBS station. During my stint in KC I wrote a manuscript for a book, still re-editing and attempting to get it published. My second term of service was in Vermont/New Hampshire advocating for out of school childcare. Loved New England so much I stayed in NH for two more years working as a Direct Care Counselor at Wediko Childrens' Services, a psychiatric rehab facility for troubled youth with extreme behavioral and social challenges. Then went back to LI briefly, to work with MR/DD population as a house manager. 9/11 happened, and I bugged out of NY, went back up north to Boston, where I stayed for 6 years, worked as an Asst Guidance Counselor at McKinley South End Academy, for troubled youth who had been kicked out of regular public schools. All the while playing guitar, keys, and singing in a funk/blues/jazz band called Handsome Frank. Changed jobs several times, was a residential supervisor at the Italian Home for...Expand for more
Children, similar facility as Wediko, except these kids had little to no family, essentially orphans and some actually were. Then became a job coach for MR/DD adults at Vinfen. During this time I went back to school at Cambridge College got closer to getting that stupid piece of paper that supposedly lets the world I am intelligent of sorts, then a close friend had a horse accident became paralyzed and I left to live with them in Rhode Island for a while to help out with the family, they have two kids, and I essentially became what they affectionately called "The Manny", once my work was done and most of the medical tests and the bulk of the initial physical therapy was completed I decided to move back to LI where I currently am 1/30/08. So that's basically it, aside from a myriad of boring details and frivolous anecdotes of my trapses across the country experiencing new things and following Phish around and hiking the Long Trail in Vermont twice. And if for some strange reason anyone really reads these things and finishes this long dissertation I usually can be found playing an open mic in Queens on friday nights at a place called the Grind Cafe, on the corner of 39th and Queens Blvd. with, if any of you remember, John Henry. And though I am not a teenager (anymore) I do have a music myspace page, since this thing won't allow me to post address' its the myspace url then, /ezekial. Oh and my actual is ezekial218 at yahoo dot com Be well. Chris "Zeke" Danowski
